Rising Stars: Meet Milly Betancourt of Other

Today we’d like to introduce you to Milly Betancourt.

Hi Milly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut to a Puerto Rican household, where community, hard work, and caring for others were always a big part of life. Before entering the wellness industry, I earned both my Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies and my MBA in Entrepreneurial Studies from Bay Path University. Originally, I thought I wanted to become an attorney and never really saw myself working so closely with people. Just six months after finishing my MBA, I decided to take a chance and enroll in massage school; honestly not even knowing if I would enjoy it or be good at it.

That decision completely changed my life. I quickly fell in love with massage therapy and discovered how diverse and impactful the industry truly is. What started as curiosity turned into a passion for helping people through bodywork, wellness, and education. After graduating from the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy, I became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2015 and officially opened A Little Time For You in 2016.

Over the years, I’ve continued expanding my education and services into areas like cupping therapy, post-operative care, craniosacral therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, and wellness education. I’ve also had opportunities to teach, serve in leadership roles within the industry, and collaborate with healthcare and wellness professionals. Today, I continue growing both personally and professionally while staying rooted in the same mission I started with; creating meaningful experiences that help people take a little time for themselves.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, and honestly, I still struggle sometimes. I think that’s just part of being an entrepreneur. One thing I dislike about social media and business culture sometimes is how “easy” success can look from the outside, even when that’s not the intention. Behind every business are sacrifices, stress, mistakes, uncertainty, and moments where you question yourself.

I’ve gone through a lot over the years, including surviving COVID from a business standpoint, which was incredibly difficult for so many small business owners in the wellness industry. I’ve also moved locations multiple times, thankfully with clients continuing to follow and support me through every transition. Along the way, I’ve made many mistakes, but I’ve also been given even more support, opportunities, guidance, and grace.

Truthfully, neither the business nor I would be where we are today without the support system around me. My family, especially my mother and son, my best friend, close friends, colleagues, teachers, coaches, mentors, clients, and even competitors have all played a role in my journey in one way or another. I’m deeply grateful for every lesson, every opportunity, and every person who believed in me, supported me, or pushed me to grow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work centers around helping people feel and function better through therapeutic bodywork, wellness services, and education. I specialize primarily in deep tissue massage and cupping therapy, with an approach that focuses on understanding what the body actually needs based on a person’s lifestyle, stress, movement patterns, career, workouts, or daily activities. My overall goal is to help people continue doing the things they want and need to do with less pain, discomfort, and restriction.

Over the years, I’ve become known for my hands-on work, especially deep tissue techniques that are both effective and intentional, as well as my movement-based approach to cupping therapy. I really enjoy problem-solving with the body and helping clients better understand how their habits, stress, posture, or physical demands affect how they feel physically.

One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to mentor students and newer professionals entering the industry. I love creating supportive relationships where people feel comfortable learning, asking questions, and growing in their confidence and skills. I’ve also had opportunities to teach, consult, and support other colleagues and entrepreneurs both inside and outside of the wellness industry, which has been incredibly rewarding.

I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about people as individuals and not just appointments on my schedule. I try to combine education, experience, intuition, and practical results in a way that makes people feel both supported and understood. Whether I’m working hands-on with clients, teaching, or consulting, my focus is always on helping people grow, feel better, and move through life with a little more ease.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are honestly so many people who deserve credit for helping me along this journey because no one builds something completely on their own. First I have to mention my mother, Ivette Betancourt, she has been my biggest supporter and example. She has worked in community service as long as I can remember and is also an entrepreneur. She taught me resilience, how to keep going even during difficult times, and the importance of genuinely caring for people.

My best friend Maggie Marti has also been a huge support system for me over the years. No matter what I need, whether it’s advice, helping behind the scenes, listening to me vent, or showing up when I call, she’s always there. My son Cesar has also played a big role in motivating me and supporting me throughout this journey.

I’ve also been fortunate to have incredible support from colleagues and entrepreneur friends like Diana Zapata and Nitasha Garcia-Gonzalez, along with so many massage teachers and mentors who helped shape the practitioner I am today. People like Rick Hasche, Nikki Arel, Dr. Joi Edwards, and Tami Cook from Somatic Healings all contributed to my growth in different ways through education, guidance, encouragement, and perspective.

Outside of the massage industry, one person who truly helped me keep my business afloat in the especially in the beginning was Karla Medina from Sudor Taino. She taught me so many priceless lessons on how to run a business and how to work with clients. Her guidance and business coaching during those early stages made a huge difference for me, especially during moments when I was still learning how to navigate entrepreneurship.

I’m deeply grateful for all of these people and honestly so many others; clients, friends, mentors, colleagues, and supporters who believed in me, referred people to me, encouraged me, collaborated with me, or simply reminded me to keep going when things felt hard. Every single one of them played a role in helping both me and the business become what it is today.
