Today we’d like to introduce you to Misha Fair.
Hi Misha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m an Atlanta Native singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist diving headfirst into the rock/soul-laden world of Alt-Country. In a way, it seems like the start of my solo musical career; however, I have worked as an artist developer, vocal producer/coach and songwriter for many years. I started like many, singing in choirs, chorus, etcetera; however, I also had three generations of touring musicians and recording artists on both sides of my family.
I began performing in many popular venues in Atlanta before a chance meeting with Janelle Monae created an opportunity for me to work for her then Indie label, “Wondaland Arts Society”. After a few years, I branched out and continued writing, vocal producing and offering artist development to both independent and signed artists alike My vocals can be found in collaborations across many genres, from David Banner’s “Who Want It” ft. Black Thought to projects like the alternative/emo-pop synch project “Love Don’t Love”. Many of which highlights much of my versatility and diversity as an artist and vocal arranger. As a singer, writer and vocal producer, I have worked with various artists, songwriters, and producers, including the likes of Blanco Brown, Breland, Demun Jones, and Yelawolf. Now, I look to join my country music contemporaries as a prolific singer-songwriter with my own story to tell.
I released my first country single, Memphis on March 4th and followed up with an incredible visual on VEVO. I am also scheduled to perform live in the Netherlands May 12-14 for The New Skool Rules International Music Festival, with additional tour dates to be announced shortly thereafter.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In Atlanta, I’ve actually been pretty fortunate to always have spaces to create, and while I appreciate the enthusiasm shared by many of the creatives and executives who have supported me, it was sometimes difficult to find interest in country music that matched the energy I received doing other genres. That is changing rapidly though, which is super exciting!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an alt-country artist embarking on my solo music career. My sound is a blend of classic country and gritty southern rock. I like to say, “It’s country… deep-fried in folk and bluegrass… served with a side of rhythm and blues”. I’m a multi-instrumentalist: I play guitar, piano and the stick dulcimer in performance and to write a multitude of genres, many of which fall within the country/alternative/American space. I’m known in Atlanta as a vocal coach and artist developer in various studios across the city as well as my practice M Fair Vocal Mastery. I am multi-lingual and sing in many languages and genres as a reference singer and vocal producer and utilize those skills in my songwriting and communication in the music business as well.
