Rising Stars: Meet Raquel Ravenell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Ravenell.

Hi Raquel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m from Charleston, SC and have been living in Atlanta for about 13 years now. I had visited Atlanta a few times before moving down here and fell in love. It’s the culture and drive of the city that attracted me to it. I saw a lot of Black people thriving and I wanted to be around that energy. I knew I wanted to evolve as a creative no matter what side of creativity I landed on, I just stepped out on faith. I believe that’s what got me started and is a part of what keeps me motivated to this day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I enrolled in the School of Life, I knew it wouldn’t be a smooth road. I’ve made some sacrifices and I’ve been through some things that have challenged and changed me. I believe, with a little bit of “struggle” or challenge, you can learn a thing or two about life; how to adapt, how to improve, how to get ahead, how to be still, etc. My struggle looks different from the next person but for me, it’s not so much about the struggle, it’s about the persistency and making the choice to really live.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a freelance writer and I also have two businesses. RAVENELL is my online shop where I sell custom handmade jewelry and sculptural adornments. I am also Co-Owner of Whiskey and Rosemary LLC a craft lifestyle brand with a focus on cocktails, food, travel, experiences, wellness and community.

I’ve always been an artist and I forever will be, I choose to use my creativity any chance I get, which I believe is a big part of my purpose.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
In this moment, what matters to me most is awareness and making choices that will help better myself and the people around me. Life is short so I want to make the most of it and lead with love.
