Today we’d like to introduce you to Telisha Nettles.
Hi Telisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m from small town Florida. (Graceville,Fl) left to Tallahassee for Nursing School at FAMU. Had a micro preemie at 24 weeks after graduating and working as a nurse for a year. During COVID, I began investing in my singing journey at a new level. Ended up being a travel nurse and traveled to Atlanta for one of my assignments. I felt the sense of belonging and that I was in the right place. So I moved my autistic son (my 24 weeker who at this time was about 3-4) to Atlanta. I started posting online, initially doing covers and progressed to writing my own music and recording. Through my engineer, I was able to meet my current partner. We are both artists and were referred to one another by our engineer. Last year we welcomed a beautiful baby boy. Today we are taking the city by store and walking in our light towards our musical calling.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely bumpy. Along the way,
Having an autistic child (originally a 24 weeker with medical issues), being a nurse, a partner that is an artist and Dating an artist. Currently In school for my doctorate.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a r&b artist with southern roots. I specialize in displaying emotion through song. I love feel good music. I operate in my own sensuality. I am a conscious writer and live a good pun 😭💕. I love performing live with a band. It’s like everyone in their specialty coming together to make people feel! I love it. Singing has always been natural to me. I began singing in church as a little girl.
Im proud of me for taking the leap of faith and following my dreams despite all the obstacles.
My drive and ambition despite adversity sets me apart from others. I’m 29 working on a terminal degree with a special needs child and a baby. While also chasing my dreams as a singer. Nothing can stop me but me.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Definitely looking to stay true to myself and promote growth for me and my family. I’d like to use my platform to promote awareness for many different topics such as health literacy, autism awareness, and financial preparedness.
