Today we’d like to introduce you to Winona Shepard.
Hi Winona, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began making signs when I was 22. I fell in love with the creativity and freedom of designing and producing signs, It was a great feeling helping customers achieve their marketing needs. A few years later I broke off from being a manager and opened my first business at the age of 26. I was in a small town and worked so hard to make a name for myself. I was able to establish a brand that everyone recognized. Although it took me some time, I accomplished my goal! I was honored to work with the organizations like the Sheriffs office, County Attorneys office, Chamber of Commerce and other organizations in the community. I also donated time by being on the board for the Chamber and made signs for the ribbon cutting members.
Unfortunately life took a turn and I went through a hard time in life that set me back immensely. I had to take some time off and also close my business. In all honestly, I felt pretty defeated at my lowest point. But, a few years later, I opened my second business and have been creating amazing signs and art since then. In August of 2025 I decided to head back to the south, which is where I am originally from. I felt led to start yet another new journey! I am looking forward to growing my business here in the Chattanooga area where I can bless others with my creative services.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh no it surly has not been easy! I don’t know one business owner that could say that! On the daily things change. Between life’s challenges and business changes, the up’s and down’s of economy fluctuations and technology upgrades, it’s a task to stay above it all. As hard as it can be at times, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t see what I do as a job. I get to do what I love everyday. And that makes it all worth it, Plus its pretty awesome making people happy.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have years of sign experience with designing, printing, cutting vinyl, applications, production and installations. But as time has progressed, I see how I’ve wanted to become more of an artisan. I always see possibilities where most people see usual. In the business I run now, I use a variety of applications and tools to create creative signs, wall art, nature / black & white photography, repurposed wood art and so much more. It’s a joy being able to hand make products that are personal to clients and also be able to express my creativity. I put a lot of detail into my work that continually surprises customers. I’m truly proud of that because I listen to what they want but but use a creative touch that creates lasting memories with original art.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I would love to work with other businesses like photographers, realtors and even interior decorators! I like to call them power partners. When we work together, we create a network of clients that talk and share who we are. The honor of having a referral sent because someone believes in you and your services, is the best compliment a business owner can receive. It shows trust and I want people in my corner that sees my worth and talent.
Image how much better we can be, if we help another’s along the way. I don’t l know about you… but I will never have the mindset of “It’s all about me”. I just cant do life or business that way. I hope that as I grow with other business owners, they can have the same thoughts and ideas I do. Its important to help each other grow, be accountable where it’s needed and pass referrals because of trust. That’s a win win in my book.
