Ashton Huffman shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Ashton, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
Absolutely. I stand up for the ones who feel like their voice has never been heard, for the ones who never feel like they are enough or valued. I’m constantly and confidently standing up for those with the same heart that Jesus did. Leading by example.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ashton with Makeup By Ashton and I have been showing women their authentic beauty for over ten years now. I don’t take a single moment or minute for granted loving on all who sit in my chair. I specialize in enhancement with natural to soft glam bridal experiences.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I was young. Growing up, I wasn’t encouraged. I grew up an honor student who dedicated all of her achievements to people who expected it, so nothing was celebrated. I was made to be the best, so I was, but it was never enough. One day, I decided it was and I never looked back. I am who the Lord says I am and the second I started to believe that, it opened a pathway into pouring into people in a way I never knew I could. Feeling powerful comes with being loving, gentle and kind and what comes from that is the power to show people their worth.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The wounds of my life are dark, heavy and something I carry every day, but with the help of The Lord, I am able to turn everything that has happened to me into something I can do for someone else. There’s a saying that says “hurt people hurt people” and I’m here to change the narrative to “hurt people heal to heal other people” taking the time to center myself with my faith and spending time with the Father will always help me heal the hurt in my own heart and in others.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That women are to be changed, molded and shaped into some type of perfection that doesn’t exist and if we don’t, we aren’t enough. That if we age, we’re losing at life and that who we are isn’t enough from the start. So many artist, SO many artist, edit their work and to say it’s distasteful is an understatement. It’s implying that the face wasn’t beautiful enough in its natural form. How damaging!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When I am with my family. My husband and I have been married for 10 years and the life we have created together will always bring me to tears. We have two beautiful, kind and intentional children and I couldn’t be more blessed. My husband is such a reminder of Gods grace and I am overwhelmed by what we have been able to accomplish together!
