We recently had the chance to connect with Hannah JH Bang and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Hannah JH, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
Most days begin quietly — I check emails, plan studio work, and organize things for IN3SECONDS, the company I started. It’s a project that documents artists and friends through short interviews and portraits, capturing the kind of connection that can happen in just three seconds.
In the afternoon, I’m usually in the studio — drawing, filming, editing, or building small installations that mix objects and moving images. Some days are spent meeting artists or working together online through our “workroom” sessions.
Evenings are for writing, reflecting, and updating the archive. My days often change, but the goal stays the same: to notice small, meaningful moments and find ways to share them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Hannah JH Bang, and I’m an artist working between performance, video, and installation. My work often explores endurance, repetition, and the moments that connect people in subtle ways.
I recently started a company called IN3SECONDS, which began as an artist community and has grown into an evolving documentary platform. The name comes from the idea that love or connection can happen in just three seconds. Through interviews, photos, and short videos, we archive small but powerful moments shared between artists and friends.
What makes this project special is that it values time and presence — it’s not about perfection but about honesty. Right now, I’m developing a series of video portraits and public events that invite people to pause and see each other, even for a brief moment.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that shaped me most is with the act of gathering — and being one myself. I’ve always been drawn to collecting people, moments, and gestures, almost like building a living archive. But over time, I realized that I’m also part of that archive — one of the gathered.
Through community and shared time, I learned that relationships aren’t only about connection between people, but also about how we witness ourselves within them.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Keep living — keep your life — until you learn to love yourself.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building spaces that highlight artists, art lovers, and the act of living itself — not just the artworks. Whether through IN3SECONDS or my own practice, I want to keep creating ways for people to be seen, connected, and remembered.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m at home or in my studio — both are places where time slows down, the temperature feels just right, and I can simply be myself.
