Lanota Fludd shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Lanota, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Joy is relative and varies for persons. As for me, outside of work I find joy in being able to spend time with family and friends.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lanota. I am a lover of family, friends, and travel.I am the owner of Luxury Life Counseling. I provide clients with a unique boutique experience via tailoring sessions just for them through partnering with them to meet their needs. I am currently working on an Intimacy Workshop with the first being held on September 14th in Atlanta GA entitled Intimacy- It’s more than sex. My practice’s greatest joy is being able to work with people to gain or maintain homeostasis within.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
While I have learned many things from family and friends I learned the most about work through one of my earlier mentors N. Gregg. I encountered her during college and was able to be mentored by her for several years in the onset of my professional career. The three most impactful lessons she taught me are: he who leads best serves most, leadership is an ever evolving position, and that change is constant. I have carried these three lessons with me from early career until current.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that held me back the longest was the fear of drowning. I almost drowned as a kid and as a result as much as I enjoy the water I would limit how deep I would go in the water. If my feet did not touch the floor I was uncomfortable. I decided after being on a trip a couple of years ago and everyone went scuba diving but me that I needed to change the narrative. I finally took swim classes and now am better able and more confident to navigate the water.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
A truth that I believe and cannot prove is that rest is essential for growth. Society focuses on the grind and on the state of being active and while I believe that it is important to be focused I believe that rest is the most essential things for growth.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am walking or sitting in a room with my aromatherapy going. There is a sense of both calm and stillness in both of these actions.
