We recently had the chance to connect with Matthew Ramessar and have shared our conversation below.
Matthew , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
In this point of my career, I believe I am walking a path. I’ve been doing this since I was 16 years old and a lot has changed over the course of life in terms of music. I’ve made new friends, I’ve had better opportunities and most importantly, I’ve just made better music too. I’m 21 now and with all of these factors taken into consideration, it has strongly helped me carve a vision of where I want to be and who I want to be not just as a producer, but as a person overall.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Moodyywho and I am a music producer/engineer from Atlanta, ga. I’ve been in the industry for about 5 years now and honestly, I love it. Something that keeps me going about this is having the ability to create vibes that people can feel. Growing up, my favorite songs also evoked a feeling in me whether it was happiness, sadness, etc. I wanted to do the same thing for others. I just recently released an album with my friend, Jake Santana, called, LifeOfTheParty. As mentioned in the name, it’s a party influenced album that captures both the highs and the lows of partying and living that life. The vibes in there are unmatched and I believe it truly captures that party/club scene.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom and grandma taught me the most about work. As I grew up, the first priority was working or finding work to do. If we had plans that day, the motto was, “work first and play after”. After hearing that for an extremely long time, it’s kinda sticks in your mind as you get older. Even to this day, I still apply that to a lot of things I do now. It keeps my head on straight.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
A fear that has held me back was the fear of being judged or perceived a certain way. Ever since I was young, I was always worried about judgement or how someone looked at me if I was too confident or too shy. After a while, I slowly worked through it by just understanding that regardless of who you are or what you do, people will always have something to say and there will be multiple ways people will perceive you. So just be you, and be you loud and confidently. We’re all just regular people at the end of the day.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Aside from music, I believe they would say family or friendships. I hold my relationships extremely close to me. Especially as I get older, it makes you appreciate the ones you have around you and cherish them.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That doing your best and being the best person you can be will pay off later on in life. I believe that when you put your best ability into anything, you will still leave feeling accomplished. A simple, “As long as I tried my best” will take you a long way. The way Kobe approaches basketball.
