Story & Lesson Highlights with Meeka Lewis of Birmingham

Meeka Lewis shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Meeka, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
My most recent proudest moment was winning the 2025 EMCA Bridal Makeup Award. I was overjoyed simply to be there, but taking home the award made the experience even sweeter—it was the perfect icing on the cake.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Meeka Monique, and I am a dedicated bridal makeup artist with a passion for creating timeless, elegant looks that make every bride feel like the most radiant version of herself. What sets me apart is my ability to blend artistry with emotion—I don’t just apply makeup; I craft an experience. I take the time to understand each bride’s personality, vision, and unique features, ensuring her look feels authentic, flawless, and unforgettable.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Before I even saw it in myself, my friends recognized my potential to become a full-time makeup artist. They kept encouraging me to leave my job and pursue my passion, reminding me that my talent was too strong to be just a side hobby. When I finally took the leap, I never looked back—and it was the best decision I ever made.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One fear that has held me back is being afraid to fully be myself. I used to second-guess everything—nervous to talk or show up on my social media because I didn’t want to come across the wrong way. But I’m learning to embrace my authentic self, and I’m realizing that people genuinely connect with that. Being me is more than enough.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say that the most important thing in my life is my daughter, and they’re right—everything I do revolves around her.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people will tell about me when I’m gone is that I truly cared for my clients. I’m deeply grateful for the gift God has given me, and I try to pour that talent into every person who sits in my chair. I hope they always felt valued, appreciated, and loved through my work.
