We recently had the chance to connect with Seven Chan and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Seven, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’ve been working on the business for years but only recently I’ve decided its time to work on myself and my personal development. This year I’ve gone on a personal transformation, I’ve lost 30 lbs and visited 5 new countries and I’ve both been able to grow personally and professionally. I’ve just come back from 2 months overseas in South East Asia and its been amazing to see and experience new things and i’ve found alot of new professional goals and opportunities. Its like the saying things come to you when they least expect them, or when your not looking.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My names Seven Chan, I’m with KSP Restaurant Group. We have award winning franchise brands like Poke Burri, Lifting Noodles ramen and at one time 20 plus restaurants. Since covid we’ve moved into franchising and developing for other small brands just like ours. We’re taking the success and experience we’ve had within our own brands and company and using those skills to help others grow and scale. Its been really cool to see peoples eyes or mind light up when they realize their small business or restaurant can grow through franchising without having to be a big giant company or having infinite budget. Most people we’ve worked with since this shift have had no idea that franchising was an option for them, most people think its a step reserved for big name companies or big bank account peoples, so its been amazing to see people grow and to be a part of them taking the next steps.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Theres a part of me thats always been a conquerer. One of my life motto’s has always been I am not a king I am a conquerer, and its served me well and given me an edge against competitors my whole life. I’ve never been made to manage or sit on a throne as a kind, I have always been the one fighting battles, making new deals, fighting for new milestones and accomplishments but now that i’ve become successful and checked off alot of my boxes I can now transition into having a better work life balance and focus more on happiness than just professional success. Whats been amazing about the realization is becoming that person has attracted me to other people with the same mindset and new opportunities that check these new boxes. So sometimes when you change the people around you change and the things you put yourself infront of or come to you change as well.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I think i’ve learned that anything worthwhile doesn’t come easy and what you put in is what you get out. Even when the world is unfair or the system is broken you still have yourself and what you can control and what you can do to move forward. I’ve been someone whos been successful and made something out of nothing and had to start over many times, and each time wasn’t a failure but a growth spurt or growing out of your comfort zone to get to the next frontier. For a long time I’d fight against change and now I embrace it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A key belief I’ve carried for years is that anything is possible as long as you take a step forward everyday, and with that daily consistency if your doing the right things results will come, and results may or may not come as you’d hope or expect them but if your taking a step forward everyday and those steps are collectively in the right direction, results will come and probably quicker than you think, and if not then its time to pivot or re-evaluate what your doing.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Alot of people look at the things I have or things i’ve accomplished and think that my success is money or houses or travel but I want people to see things as look how hard hes worked, look at the moves hes made, look at how I’ve done things my own way or differently to get where I am.
