Story & Lesson Highlights with Shanquea Walker of Columbus, GA

We recently had the chance to connect with Shanquea Walker and have shared our conversation below.

Shanquea, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve started crocheting clothes. It’s been a creative outlet that brings me peace and joy, while also letting me design pieces that reflect my personality.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shanquea Walker, and I’m the founder of Beaut Haus, a platform designed to make beauty simple, safe, and accessible. We connect clients with licensed stylists for hair, nails, and grooming services while also offering on-demand delivery for beauty products. My journey is deeply personal because I live with alopecia, and that experience shaped my mission to create a brand that not only saves time and adds convenience but also celebrates confidence, self-expression, and community. Beaut Haus is about more than beauty. It’s about empowerment, trust, and creating a safe space for people to feel seen and cared for. Right now, I’m preparing for our launch and building campaigns that highlight both beauty and awareness, including initiatives around alopecia support and education.”

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I was, I was Shan. I was a curious, creative, and free-spirited girl who loved to dream big. Life was meaningful when I was writing, creating, and finding joy in turning simple things into something meaningful. I didn’t see limits because I saw possibilities. Over time, life tried to put me in boxes, telling me to tone myself down, follow the rules, and play it safe. But at my core, I’ve always been someone who wants to inspire, build, and leave things better than I found them. Rediscovering that version of myself has been one of the most freeing and empowering parts of my journey.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me to resilience. It built my endurance, deepened my faith, and showed me how to turn pain into power. Success celebrates the finish line, but suffering trained me for the marathon. I learned never to allow a dim light to stifle my shine.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Intelligence means nothing if you cannot see morality. Too often, people mistake being smart for being right, forgetting that wisdom without compassion can cause just as much harm as ignorance.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What pain do you resist facing directly?
The pain I resist facing directly is living with bipolar disorder. After years of my diagnosis being a mixed anxiety/depressive disorder, I received a new diagnosis in April that’s brought me a little of solace and also a bit of anxiety. It’s a constant push and pull between strength and vulnerability. Some days it feels easier to bury it, but I’ve learned that even in the struggle, there’s power in acknowledging it. Sharing it is part of my healing and a reminder that I’m more than my diagnosis.
