Taianah Williams of Southwest Atlanta on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Taianah Williams shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Taianah, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of building is my resilience and my ability to keep going even when the support isn’t loud. People see the results, but they don’t see the nights I stayed up planning, pushing, and believing in what I know I’m capable of. I’ve learned that sometimes silence around you just means God is working behind the scenes. I’m building something much bigger than what people can see right now. It’s purpose-driven, it’s built on hustle, and it’s rooted in faith. That’s what keeps me going, knowing that even when no one’s watching, I’m still putting in the work that will speak for itself when the time is right.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Taianah Williams and I’m the creator of Ty Lashed Her, a brand that started in my college dorm room and grew into something much bigger than I could have imagined. What began as a simple hustle turned into a movement that taught me the power of consistency, confidence, and creativity. I have always believed that when you put passion behind your purpose, doors start to open even when no one else sees the vision yet. Right now Ty Lashed Her is evolving into something greater, something that represents growth and elevation on every level. I am in a season of building quietly and letting my next chapter speak for itself, but what I can say is that everything I am working on is rooted in empowerment and helping others see what is possible when you bet on yourself.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I made my first few hundred dollars doing lashes in my college dorm room. It was not just about the money, it was the moment I realized I could create something out of nothing. I remember looking around my small setup and feeling this deep sense of pride, knowing that I built it myself with no handouts and no blueprint. That was the first time I truly understood what it meant to be self made. It showed me that my vision and my work ethic could open doors that nobody else could see for me. From that day on, I promised myself that I would always bet on me. That moment sparked something in me that never left. It taught me that real power comes from believing in your own potential before anyone else does.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, I would tell her that she was right. Every dream she had, every time she felt like she was different, every moment she worked when nobody was watching, it was all preparing her for something bigger. I would tell her to stop doubting herself and to be proud of how strong and driven she is becoming. Life will test her, but she will always rise because that fire in her has purpose. I would tell her that the same girl who used to dream about making it is going to do more than just make it, she is going to inspire others to believe that they can too.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the beauty industry tells itself is that success happens overnight. People make it look easy, like you will get rich the moment you start, but they never talk about the long nights, the slow days, or the moments you question yourself. The truth is, it takes time, patience, and real discipline to build something that lasts. I learned early that being in this industry is about more than money or followers, it is about consistency and building trust with people. Everybody wants the results, but not everyone is willing to put in the work when nobody is watching. That is what separates the real hustlers from the ones who just want the image.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I could. I have learned that real success is not about who claps for you, it is about who keeps going when nobody does. I have spent years putting my best into everything I touch, even when it felt like nobody saw it. That taught me that my worth is not defined by recognition but by my effort and heart. I know that what is meant for me will always find me, and that the work I do in silence will one day speak louder than any applause. So yes, I could give everything my best, because I am not doing it for attention, I am doing it for the version of me who refused to give up.
