TK Parker of Greater Atlanta Area on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with TK Parker and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning TK, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I like to study up on French and get my body moving in those first 90 minutes. Fully supported by my music shuffling of course. I try to keep that part of my wake up consistent. Especially, when the schedule starts to vary day to day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My creative name is TK. I engineer, song write, produce and play multiple instruments. My primary is the cello, so many of my ideas come from a more classical background. Any inspiration outside of that tends to come from video game soundtracks, movies and animated films. Currently, I’ve been collaborating Jhonni Blaze on her next project. However, there are big changes coming for me in the very near future that we’ll have to see play out in real time.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believed that you had to do everything with your own hands. If it wasn’t from your efforts almost exclusively, you can’t take credit or celebrate it. I believed I had to figure it out or suffer through it.

That changed the more I worked with others. Collaboration is one of the most important things that we can do, especially when we need a new path to a solution. It helps us see things in ways we can’t. Positively and negatively

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Multiple times. Several, several times I’ve wanted to push music to the side. When bills and life events hit, it becomes difficult to rationalize a dream depending on your circumstances. But, music keeps me interested. It keeps the world colorful. It lets us imagine impossible purple stars and how to make them seen.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
The Goal isn’t to win. It’s to keep winning. Sacrifice the illogical and unnecessary and maintain winning traits. Maintaining is so much more important than making it. If you already have the proper maintenance in place, it scales up as you scale up. Yet, it will crumble under its own weight without it. Find a way to win, then keep winning.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
I’ve become a more cautious person as I get older. Opportunities, conversations, and events sometimes leave me wanting something bad to happen. I prepare for negative outcomes more often than positive. There are creatives that I’ve gotten the chance to work with that feel less “awe inspiring” then I would’ve though. Maybe it came from my own contributions or lack of confidence in my contributions. So, I wouldn’t say it didn’t satisfy me. I just feel there’s still better performances from myself that are yet ti be heard.
