Check out Ashley McBroom’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley McBroom.

Ashley, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in Georgia and I graduated from Georgia Tech – Go Jackets! After college I spent 10 years in the Bay Area in California where I met my husband and where we had our boys. Although I couldn’t be happier about being back home in the south, California still holds a special place in my heart.

I worked in marketing and advertising after college, and while I wouldn’t trade the years of hustle and hubbub working for a big ad agency in San Francisco for anything, it is with photography that I found my passion. Like many photographers, my journey began when I bought my first DSLR in 2010 in anticipation of the birth of our first child, and I’ve been hooked since. To me, capturing a moment is half of the joy and the other half comes from editing it to achieve my artistic vision – I simply adore it.

Art wasn’t something that was prioritized or valued in my family, and although I always found the most joy by expressing myself through writing and drawing as a child, I was encouraged to pursue a career in a “safer” field. While I sometimes wonder where I would be now had I pursued photography and the arts earlier in my life, I recognize that this is my story and I’m grateful that I eventually found my way home to my calling. As cliché as it sounds, I truly believe happiness comes from pursuing your innermost passion.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My goal is to show people the magic that exists in our everyday. The beauty that is right in front of us if we slow down and take a closer look. It can be something as simple as the way a child’s hand slips right inside their parent’s as they walk, or something you have to search a little harder for like the way rays of light stream underneath the surface of the water in a swimming pool and transform it into another place altogether.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Artists have the unique ability to express their values and opinions visually. I think it’s always been true that as an artist, your work will always reveal your inherent beliefs about certain subjects. Some do this more subtly than others. My art isn’t politically inspired, but my values around the importance of a connected family and my love for the environment tend to show in my work.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I own a boutique photography studio – Ashley McBroom Photography – and my focus is primarily on newborns, children, and families. I shoot on-location, and I’ve recently added underwater sessions to my offerings. I post regularly on Instagram and Facebook and my website is www.ashleymcbroomphotography.com. One of my images was recently on display at the NAPCP Inspired Gallery Event at Park Studios in Buckhead.
