Life and Work with Kirsten Fagin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Fagin.

Kirsten, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was 24, I moved to Olympia, WA for a year and while I was there, I found that I needed something deeper to keep me afloat. I have always been deeply rooted in spiritual practices, I grew up Seventh-Day Adventist and have always had rituals that I was used to doing. I first started reading tarot for myself in high school and eventually branched out to doing readings for my friends sometimes. Reading tarot quickly turned into me discovering astrology, candle magick and what I like to call “home magick.”

I had always been taught that witchcraft, in general, was bad and that those who practice it aren’t holy people. So, I struggled a lot with telling those that I love my new found spirituality. Through this, I rediscovered my love for writing and thus created my second online publication “On The Edge.” OTE was the beginning of Magickgal and for that, I will always hold it near my heart. Summer 2017, I started reading tarot professionally and sometimes doing spellwork for friends. ‘Magickgal’ came about after I used the hashtag on Instagram and realized that I loved that name. I loved what it meant for me and for other young womxn who were in the beginning stages of rediscovering their spirituality.

Magickgal is more than just a brand name or a hashtag now, it is who I am and who other people are as well. I like to say that our social media is the millennial witches favorite place on the internet. We are honest about our opinions on politics, womxn’s rights, sexual education, home decor and much more. I created this space for the womxn who needed an honest space to fully be whoever they choose to be. I am proud of what I have curated over time and what is yet to come I am more than excited for. As of now, Magickgal is on a hiatus last year was pretty heavy for me personally and it affected my work. I am still working through some things, but have yet to give up on my soul mission!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth, I started my publication when I was a poor twenty-something without healthcare. I was across the country, away from my family and not making much money to support myself. All I had was my writing, my meditation and my faith that everything would work out one day. I still struggle sometimes, running a business is financially and mentally draining at times. I refuse to give up on something that has guided me through my tough times and that’s what keeps me going.

My advice to young womxn who are just starting their journey is to keep going even when you feel lost. Remember, this is a marathon so you have to pace yourself! You’re not going to become an overnight success and if you do, good for you! However, if you don’t… don’t let that discourage you in any way. The people who rock with you should be your only concern! I have tarot clients who come back consistently and some who don’t! I love them all because they chose me to share their emotions with.

Whatever it is that you do, make sure you’re in love with it. Make sure that your dreams are also aligned with your purpose because that’s where your true power lies!

What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I am a tarot reader, novice astrologist, professional best friend and more! I call my tarot sessions ‘best friend therapy’ because each of my clients is my friends. They trust me and I trust them, reading tarot is an intimate practice. I pride myself on being as transparent as possible with those who seek out my services and that’s exactly what I tell people when they book a session. “Don’t come to me if you’re wanting someone to stroke your ego and lie to you,” I say that to every single person that contacts me, especially those who have never had a reading done before.

I’m also known for doing monthly (sometimes bi-monthly) Tarotscopes. Which are tarot readings that I personally do for each zodiac sign. I love astrology so incorporating that into my public readings brings me a lot of joy. I also do pop-up readings on my Instagram (@Kirstenreneesays) and I do two or three each month. As a brand, my biggest joy is hearing people tell me that they’ve found their own version of spirituality because of Magickgal. That’s how I know what I’m doing is aligned with my purpose and that’s all that I’ve wanted for my life.

What sets me apart is that I mind my business and I don’t try to compare myself to any other spiritual worker on the internet. If you find me, I appreciate you and if you don’t like my work that’s okay too!

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think womxn can do whatever they damn well please, the idea that there’s an area that we as a collective can’t do has never sat well with me. I truly feel like if a womxn wanted to do something they can, they can run multi-billion dollar businesses, be a stay-at-home mom, can team up and be business partners. Hell, they can do ALL of those things at once if they choose to and that’s what is so exciting about being a young womxn in this current world.

We are fearless, unapologetic and destined for greatness.
