Life & Work with Nyi Mulan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nyi Mulan.

Hi Nyi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am an international published model & a creative director. I got started in the fashion industry years ago but recently took my craft seriously two years ago. I got started by simply falling in love with fashion and Fashion campaigns. I knew I wanted to be the artist directing the project but also sometimes modeling in the project. Being A Print Model Has Opened Many Doors And Opportunities For My Creative Directing because It allows me to connect and network with various photographers and models who then become clients! I like to take time on each of my projects to really capture the story I want to be told in my art.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Lol! Not At All. There are still struggles on my journey now but along the way leading up to me deciding to produce art and then displaying my art, one of my biggest struggles was overcoming the self-doubt within myself. A year ago from today I was always questioning my art and doing that took the joy away from creating for me so in order to continue, I had to remind myself of why I started any of this to begin with! I started this because the world deserves to see my art & talent.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So as far as my modeling goes, I am Print Model specifically but I also have experience in other modeling areas, such as commercial modeling and I have walked in a few fashion shows! As far as my Creative Direction goes, I would like to still consider myself to be an aspiring creative director because although I have modeled many of my own concepts, I would like to expand my portfolio with other models and clients first, But Overall I’m just most proud at the fact that I took a chance on myself and my art!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice for finding a mentor or just networking in general is Put Yourself Out There! When I first started to network, I was so SHY! and expected opportunities to walk up to me! But what has worked well for me is breaking out of my comfort zone and putting my authentic self forward.
