Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
DUI began rapping at the age of 12. You could say he “jumped off the porch” at an early age. He attended Morrow High School but didn’t graduate on time. As a teenager, he dealt drugs. By age 14, he had been arrested several times. His stage name originally came from his childhood nickname “DUI”, after his run-in with the law at age 13.

In 1996, DUIs parents moved to Morrow, GA. (Clayton County) from Florida where DUI had just been arrested and was being detained in a Juvenile Detention Center. In April 2003, He was arrested for armed robbery and aggravated assault. A year later, he was sentenced to serve ten years in a state prison.

2003-2013: Life on the Inside

DUI was transferred to a Georgia State Penitentiary right after trial and was bounced around from prison to prison shortly thereafter.

He continued writing while in prison, battle rapping and freestyling in scyphers against other inmates such as himself. Eventually, he was allowed to transfer to a county facility for good behavior but ended up being transferred back to a state prison for personal dealings. He maxed out his sentence in April 2013 after serving ten years. Awaiting him outside the prison walls were his mother, his wife, and his daughter.

2013-present: Life after “Death”

Soon after his release from prison, Dui got straight to work, recording in his brother’s closet he started work on his first Mixtape: The Influence. There he began working on his first “freestyles videos” appearing all over the web and gaining tens of thousands of views. He attracted a local group known as S.U.M.O. and was soon recruited into their ranks. He has performed live in places like La Rumba and Fusion alongside S.U.M.O and by himself as a solo artist. After being involved in a car accident in 2015 Dui was left without transportation and a bad back. Facing eviction he was forced to move the “studio” to a shop in Lawrenceville, GA. There he focused on his music working till early in the morning he began mastering his sound and working on his second Mixtape titled: The Sample. He has worked with Platinum Producer Cash Clay Beats on multiple occasions. He is currently working on his LP and has projects happening with several artists overseas and a few artists in Atlanta, GA.

DUIWorld – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
DUIWorld was created a long time ago inside four walls. I envisioned an entertainment company that was not biased or political. That was authentic and tangible. We are committed to creating new concepts for our clients and walking them through the film making and video creating process. We shoot everything from short films, music videos, interviews, sketch comedies and small advertisements. We work with small businesses, HipHop/Rap artists, and production companies. We are most proud of keeping it real. Our firsthand knowledge about the “street life” and the “prison life” gives us an edge over others when it comes to portraying authenticity to our viewers.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment in my career was working on the set of The Mule with Michael Peña and Bradley Cooper. I was featured as a gangster for a scene and Clint Eastwood told me to keep up the good work!
