Today we’d like to introduce you to Karjah Carter.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Karjah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Karjah Carter I was born in Jamaica I grew up in Florida, My mother’s is a beautician, so I grew up around a lot of people doing HAIR, I started doing hair when I was 12, I used to braid little girls hair for school and make extra money for myself, After I graduated school I stayed in Florida for a little and worked in retail which is where I broke out of my shell a little, I always liked to get my hair done and feel and look beautiful weather if it was my mom that did my hair or if I did it myself, because having a mom as a hairstylist has its pros and cons which she would be tired and wasn’t able to do my hair (sometimes)
I also remember it was my little sister Prom day and my mom was out of town and I was forced to sew in my sister’s hair for prom, which I did a bomb a** job! And she won prom queen. I felt so good that day.
If I can be honest, God spoke to me in 2014 and told me I would need to leave Fl in 2016 I decided I was going to follow him and I told my job I was relocating if I could get a transfer and I told my family I will be moving, unfortunately, they didn’t believe! Come 2016 in June, the devil try to stop my I got into a huge car accident but Thank God I wasn’t hurt! My car was ruin and I didn’t have any money to buy a new because of my mom so I had to use some of my savings which was 4000 to fix my car! I decided that I wouldn’t let that stop me. I apply for my apartment everything over the phone and my family moved me here in July!
I continued to work in retail and was very, very homesick. Three months into living in Atlanta I decided I can’t go back and forth for my hair to get done in Florida and it was very expensive to do here in this big city I decided to cut my hair off which was a big chop and then I realized I can’t wear my hair out like this 🙁 . So I went to the beauty supply store bought some pack hair and make my first bang wig and I was like damn I did a good job! Then I started order bundles from aliexpress and amazon and make my own wig and start posting and my Facebook friends would ask about it and if I’m selling, so one day I made two wigs and post that I was selling and I sold them within 5 mins which was awesome, so I did a few class and started selling lashe strip and doing lash individual that’s not what I was supposed to be doing so I started making wigs more and taking wig classing and learn Day by day and then I started dying hair and doing different styles and color and went viral with my first colored blue wig and that’s when it all started I gotten better and better as the days go by. I am still learning and hoping to open I big beauty shop here in sandy springs.
Has it been a smooth road?
I can’t say it has been a smooth road because it was not. I struggle with being consistent and consistency is the key. I also struggle with having a job and running a business. I also tend to get comfortable when I feel like I have accomplished my goals for the week or month which I shouldn’t do, promote my self and business every day.
