Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendrick Little.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It started around 2016 when I was working with a few friends on their music venture. I wasn’t interested in rapping or the music itself; however, my business mindset saw where I could play a pivotal role in helping them succeed. I handled the business side of things, like booking shows and content creators. Once I started to realize how much it was costing to pay others to create the content, I decided it was time for me to change my focus.
My original focus was on photography. My work started to get out quickly, so I built a pretty decent clientele. I did this for about two years before I decided to gravitate towards videography. There was a huge demand for it around Atlanta. With no previous experience other than “click and shoot” style photography, I decided to teach myself everything I needed to know to succeed. I tapped into all the available resources online. I learned how to edit photos, create videos, and work with the majority of the Adobe Suite programs.
After learning everything I needed to for a successful business, I had to come up with a name. It’s crazy how I pieced the name together. At the time, my nickname was “Light”. I had a friend that gave me this name because of my complexion. The name stuck with me throughout the years. Next, came the “house” part. I was involved in so many projects at one time… videography, photography, music management. I basically branded so many things under one roof, one company, one “house”. And with all these things being part of media, I decided to add that to the name as well. And, that is how I came up with Lighthouse Media.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth at all. You are coming into a playing field where there are already a lot of “preferred” people. You have to work hard to stand out. You have to invest time and a lot of your own money. I would honestly recommend for anyone starting out to provide some of their services for free. You have to get your name out there and show why you are one of the best, if not the best. There were months where I didn’t see any return. I didn’t really start seeing money until last year (2019), which was three years after I started working in the field. You can’t give up on your dream because you aren’t seeing an instant reward. With anything you do, you have to make sacrifices. The beginning of the road seemed long, but the payoff has been great.
Lighthouse Media – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Lighthouse Media is a full-service media entertainment and management company. We create content through photoshoots, videography, and more. Anywhere you can put a camera in the room, Lighthouse Media can cover it. We have shot videos for Tiny “Tameka” Harris, Christian Combs, Da Baby, Teyana Taylor, Ice Cube’s Big 3, the Atlanta Hawks, and a lot more. I would say our specialty is videography because it’s the highest demand right now, but my love will always be photography.
If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
I would have definitely purchased my first camera and started sooner. I will say I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I have definitely learned from them. I had to go through the trials to learn how to successfully run a business. I’ve become very versatile in my work and I have grown, not only as a business man but as an individual. I would never change anything from the experiences, because the blessings have been endless. I can’t wait to see where Lighthouse Media is in a few years.
