Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Daye.
Hi Mario, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
What’s going on everyone? My name is Mario E. Daye, I’m 29 years young and I’m a creative in this world filled with art. Back when I was in high school, I was very active within our theatre department as an actor and was known as the kid who loved film. During my senior year, I was recommended to join the pilot group for Full Frame Film Festival’s first documentary summer camp. From there, I learned the basics of filmmaking from directing to gaffing by some amazing instructors. I was also challenged to pick up my first DSLR (Canon 5D Mark ii I believe) and capture some BTS photos. One of my instructors urged me to get my own DSLR because he saw my potential within photography.
From there, I continued to work on my crafts in between enlisting in the USAF Reserve and attending school at North Carolina A&T State University. My time at A&T is where I molded myself as a videographer and photographer. My company Daye&Knight was born and that’s when I started to flourish within my business. Fast forward to the present day, I now live in Atlanta GA, doing what I love within film and photography while helping others around me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No! It has not been a smooth road. Everyone has ups and downs. There were times where I felt stagnant within my business due to my required military training and deployments. That time away really put a pause on the growth of my business. There were also moments that I failed within my business and got depressed over it, but you always have to remember that failure is the best teacher and you have to bounce back from it in order to excel.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a creative director, cinematographer, editor, photographer and actor. I love telling stories visually. Being able to convey a story through shots, angles, moods, movements and tones are amazing to me. Ever since I started my creative journey, I was told that I have an eye for film and photography. That’s why “visions from a Daye’s point of view” is my slogan. Everyone is different and unique in their own right. That’s what sets us all apart from one another. Our ability to be true with ourselves and to walk in that truth with faith. This is how a person builds a name for themselves, a clientele, and pieces of art that will last a lifetime.
How do you think about luck?
I look at luck as a product of preparation. We sometimes believe that we have good or bad luck randomly; however, I believe that everything good or bad happens from the consequences of another action, even when we can’t recall the direct cause of that action.
