Meet Millicent Olasanoye of Tulip Eyes Makeup Artistry and T.E.C. in Metro Atlanta-Conyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Millicent Olasanoye.

Millicent, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always considered myself to be unique and different; whether it was cutting up some jeans or putting safety pins on a t-shirt. Being able to be true to who I am has always been important to me. Also, because of my Nigerian background, my eyes were opened to the world of art and fashion. While working for the Department of Family & Children’s Services, I developed a deeper passion and joy for makeup when I decided to assist young girls for homecoming and prom. As young girls and women, we still struggle with self-esteem and identity issues. Makeup unites us on an even level where judgement has no way to gain access. From that moment, I knew I was passionate about giving back through making others feel beautiful.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t. Recently, a fear of failure came upon me regarding launching my product line. I’ve realized there’s always going to be challenges to face. That’s LIFE! What’s important to me is that I learn how to find different ways and tools to migrate strategically through those challenges.

Tulip Eyes Makeup Artistry and T.E.C. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Tulip Eyes Makeup Artistry was founded in 2010 where I began providing different services such as natural looks, Avant Garde, special effects, airbrush, and lash services. I was able to connect with people on another level which embodies innovation and excitement. Life should be full of adventure and Makeup is FUN! We all have God-given talents to share with one another, whether it’s teaching, singing, wise counsel, etc. I just want to put it to good use to help others. I’m proud of my new cosmetic line T.E.C. which stands for Tulip Eyes Cosmetics. T.E.C.’s vision is freedom and unity. It’s important to be able to escape from the confinements of life’s restrictions especially with this “new” normal across the world. My products empower you to express yourself with creativeness and confidence, a bold hot pink lipstick (Sugar Twin) or a soft modest pink lip gloss (Poster Girl). I want my business to match one’s personality and inspire a call for action that will unify women. I’m creating a sisterhood through my brand. Don’t Wait. The time to break Free is now!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My educational goals and ethics. One of the things my parents have always ingrained in my siblings and I pursue your education first. We all had to obtain a degree when we graduated from high school (no exceptions). I remember my parents always saying, Regarding your education, “no one can take that away from you”. My educational pursuits has helped shaped me into the woman I am today, and I am proud to be a black woman doing what I love.
