Meet Quanisha Gindraw of Divine Jewel Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quanisha Gindraw.

Hi Quanisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always been a writer since I was a kid. English & Writers Workshop we’re my favorite classes in school. “You give me one word and ask for one page, I look up I’m on my fourth page”. So writing always been my thing until you know how most teenagers are; too grown for themselves. Miss know it all! I forgot all about writing. So from the ages 15-26 (Woah 11 years later) I was not focused on the bigger life, I always felt incomplete but I just stayed myself and didn’t realize I have so many talents. So sometime in September of 2020, I’m sitting on my couch, scrolling in my phone, I came across a post about some girl complaining of the things her male friend does.

Basically, men are better than women situation. So I said you know what I’m going to make a book out of this because us females got exactly what it takes. So I sat there and wrote. Two days later, I shared with my mom, best friend Keyara, and friend Manny. They all told me it was amazing and surprisingly shocked because I haven’t wrote in 11 years. But one thing my mom said to me that made me push forward “this is f****** dope” mind you, she don’t talk like that so I knew it was. After time went on, I’m writing and making sure I have everything in order. I said I want to see this, I don’t want to make a book anymore (wish I eventually did publish my book Let’s Trade Places on Amazon) I want to see it visually. I did all my research, found a videographer, set up auditions, held rehearsals, cried, had premieres, rough time on set, challenges, and sacrificed a whole lot to turn around a year later with three featured films “Let’s Trade Places 1 & 2 and Wrong Questions”, got a movie deal with Dame Dash Studios, Movies no longer on YouTube- All On Tubi or Will eventually air on Tubi, Went Viral, Making A lot Of Connections, Manage two amazing Artist Only Fiq & Qing Kaos (NEXT UP), & Most Importantly Became My Best Self. I am on my way to the top!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has NOT been a smooth road! But a very educated and amazing road. When I first started, I met a guy which happened to be my DP. It started off as if he was on my side and here to help. Which turned around I was just a dollar sign to him. No work got done in three months- sorry filming did but no editing, no progress, he was paid for my services every weekend which he would cancel to do other work even already paid, bad mouthing me behind my back, & and I felt he played me because I didn’t know what was going on or anything about being a filmmaker. I lost so much money in the three months and if I didn’t open my eyes and come to realization, I would not be where I am at today.

We’ve been impressed with Divine Jewel Entertainment, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Divine Jewel Entertainment was established in April of 2021. We specialize in Film & Music entertainment. We are known for Original films. The one thing that I learned that sets us apart from others are we welcome upcoming or inexperienced individuals to be able to start their craft. Give those opportunities to grow and believe in themselves because we believe everyone can make it. (I am prime example). I am most proud of DJE for being able to be free and allow others to be able to express themselves and grow from it. Things I want the readers to know is “No matter what you don’t have or do have keep applying pressure and let God take the wheel. If it’s meant, it will prosper.” Also, if you are inexperienced, upcoming, or experienced DJE is a very welcoming family-type business ran by a young black female. All dreams can come true if you just breathe.

What makes you happy?
Being a filmmaker – because it makes me feel alive. Making people happy, making myself happy, being on-set, the laughs, the tears, everything about being a film writer, director, and film producer I love it. My cast and team is another thing that’s makes me happy. They started to believe in themselves and that’s what I’m most proud of.
