Today we’d like to introduce you to Racquel Deeds.
Racquel , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started taking pictures of friends and peers at Florida A&M University when I first got my camera. I created a blog on Tumblr called Fashion and Model University. As I was getting better with my craft, my schools magazine asked me to do a couple of shoots. That’s what really started my career in photography. I was going to school for Public Relations, so I tired my skills by helping my friends starting businesses or rap careers. By graduation I wanted to try doing things on my own. I created a venue for artists to express and exploit their art and curated three showcases.
Has it been a smooth road?
It certainly has not been a smooth road. On the road to success, there will be many potholes, traffic stops, and sometimes dead ends. But the purpose of all of these obstacles is to prepare you for the future. For me, I had a lot of distractions and lost motivation toward the end of 2017. My push was knowing that I was greater than where I was. I knew that greater is coming as long as I don’t settle for less than my value. To put more action in my words, I decided that it was best to start over in New York City.
My advice to upcoming Photographers and Publicists is to keep going! You’re not always going to take that perfect picture or create that long lasting pitch the first try. It’s important to NEVER SETTLE and to always keep improving your craft.
We’d love to hear more about Good Deeds.
Currently, I’m a freelance Photographer & Publicist. I feel like as PR professional there’s a lot of hats that you have to wear. I specialize in events creation, social media campaigns, graphic design, treatments, being a promoter and pretty much anything you need me to do, I can mold into.
I take great pride in my shoots and my collaborations. I’m not selfish and love to share the wealth.
What sets me apart from others is my hard work. I don’t know any photographers that can do a shoot in 90 minutes and give your pictures back (with edits) within the next 30 minutes to an hour.
