Rising Stars: Meet Tiffanni Dean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffanni Dean.

Hi Tiffanni, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a teacher who has taught in the inner city as well as the Metro Atlanta area for about ten years. However, I’ve also always had a love for all things beauty and hair. In 2018, I decided that I wanted to find the perfect hair vendors to start my own luxury hair extensions line. I finally launched “Call Me Beauty Virgin Hair” in late 2019. I slowly began to start trying to grow my business via social media. However, I didn’t know that it would evolve into where it is now. During the start of the pandemic, we were forced to teach remotely and in our homes. This created a need for a creative outlet for me. This opened up a space for me to want to create and style wigs. I soon found that not only did I enjoy it, but I also had a talent for it. I also began teaching myself the art of making wigs using a sewing machine. It became something very therapeutic, as well as giving me an outlet during those difficult times during quarantine.

Others began to take notice and my business began to grow. I then began expanding and even started incorporating Call Me Beauty hair products such as our CMB hair mousse, wax sticks, and most recently, our lace concealer pallet! I figured, I was able to get to this point, why stop here! I was thinking of ways that I could put my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction to use for my business. I then began offering one on one wig classes in the summer of 2021! I was shocked when one by one people began booking my class to learn how to use their sewing machines to create custom wigs. I love being able to share my knowledge and what I’ve learned with other people. I love teaching and I love making wigs, so to be able to do both at the same time is a truly unbelievable feeling. I NEVER thought that I could start my own business, it was never something I’d even considered in the past. I certainly did not know that I had this unlocked talent and potential. This has been an amazing journey, but most importantly creating wigs literally saved my mental health during an extremely difficult time. For that, I am forever grateful.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been challenging in some areas. Trying to navigate social media as it pertains to growing and marketing a business is extremely challenging. Also, finding the best quality product, virgin and raw hair vendors was not easy, but an absolute necessary journey. Also, trying to grow a side business while dealing with mental health struggles during quarantine was probably the biggest challenge.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the owner of Call Me Beauty Virgin Hair and I specialize in make custom wigs using a sewing machine. We also carry customized-manufactured wigs, luxury virgin and raw Cambodian hair extensions as well as various hair products. I am most proud of my wig classes when I am able to share my knowledge and tips that I have learned along the way, with others to empower them to unlock their potential as well. My realistic, natural-looking wig styling technique is typically what catches people’s attention when looking at my custom wig work. This tends to allow my work to stand out.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I am from Atlanta, so this has always been home for me. I’ve always loved the vibrant and upbeat vibe of Atlanta. I also love the diversity in cultures, activities, and history here on this city. Also, it is a safe space for Black entrepreneurs to flourish and grow. It is truly one of the unique cities in America because of this.
