Community Highlights: Meet Kira Deevah of Deevah Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kira Deevah.

Hi Kira, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up in a single-parent household between Bishopville, South Carolina, and Paterson, New Jersey, I knew I was different from my peers. I always envisioned myself in the spotlight. I would watch television admiring actors and music videos, hoping one day that would be me. In grade school, I was involved in school plays. I was a cheerleader throughout high school and college. After my studies, I began working as a paralegal in Newark, NJ, and to be honest, at that time, the money was great for a 17-year-old but the job was boring and I felt like I was at a crossroads. I didn’t want to upset my mom but it was clear to me that whatever I wanted to do with my life should include self-expression. I just needed the right resources at that time the only way to consider making my dreams a reality was to travel to NYC.

My journey in the entertainment industry began at the age of 18 as a model for online urban magazines and from that experience, I knew immediately that I was more than just a pretty face and needed to focus more on my calling; as a result, I started acting in short films and co-hosting on independent radio stations across the NYC metro area. I enjoyed this work I built some amazing relationships and learned a lot about the entertainment industry but I had to put my dreams on hold because in 2011, I gave birth to my son and then in 2014, I gave birth to my daughter. Although these events set my career back because my sole focus was on my offspring’s. I kept a promise to never give up on myself that’s what I did. I used the knowledge from my previous years to start my brand. In January 2016, The Kira Deevah Show aired The concept Promoting the dreams that turned into reality. A platform where creators, entrepreneurs can discuss their journey to success. Although it felt amazing to have interviewed so many established artists such as Dres (Black Sheep), Speech (Arrested Development) Billy Danze (MOP) Rampage Flipmode Squad) and Joe Little III (Rudeboys), the majority of my guests were unsigned/independent artists. Considering my legal background, I immediately realized the potential of my brand and offered services to my guests such as/but not limited to Artist development, Management, and Music Distribution. By January 2017, The Kira Deevah Show became a success and I began to receive requests from my guest for Promotion/Marketing. In honor of their request, I began monthly events (Honoring Independent Music); we allowed artists to perform in front of their peers as well as guest celebrity judges who provided constructive feedback. Some of the celebrity judges were Serious Jones. Jae hood, Shotgun Suge, Jr writer, and E Ness. Thereafter the Deevah Entertainment brand was created, a full-service record label that provides all aspects of marketing and promotion. To date, we increased the awareness of over 200 + brands.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The major struggles I encountered on this journey were to constantly reassure myself that I am enough and no matter the circumstances I will succeed. After having two children at a very young age, my body didn’t look the same as my colleges. Insecurities began to arise. Throughout these years, I accomplished a lot but I missed twice as many opportunities because I didn’t have any support to continue to chase my dreams. Whenever I did get time away from my children to work, it was short-lived. I never gave up. There was a dark time in my life where I battled with depression because on top of the challenges mentioned previously, I was constantly trying to prove that I should be taken seriously as a businesswoman in the male-dominated industry. Thick skin is a must in this business. If my faith in God wasn’t as strong as it is now. I don’t think I would have made it this far.

As you know, we’re big fans of Deevah Entertainment. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My clients deserve the most credit; without them this service-based business would not be active. When I mention clients, I mean every single person who has been interviewed by myself or my team. Any entrepreneur that trusted me to promote their brand any musician that I assisted with distributing their music. Any and every induvial who referred my service to someone else. I thank you and will continue to pay it forward. I must also thank my wonderful team, yes I am the face of the brand but it is imperative to mention those who keep this business running. My promotional team, My graphic designers, My network of Producers, Engineers, Photographers, dancers, hosts, my glam team, Club/bar owners who were on call and available sometimes on short notice to assist my clients in any way. My legal team keeps me on my toes. I so appreciate you. My children are my why and I thank them for giving me purpose.
