Conversations with Budda Beats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Budda Beats.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always had a love for music. I always found myself listening to the instruments and background sounds of every song my mom used to play. How the vocals would be placed on the beat, how the different instruments played off of each other, even how each sound would dance from ear to ear. It always made me feel good. By age nine, I fell in love with pianos and taught myself how to play the keyboard. I remember going to the studio with my older cousin and him letting me sit in and learn the different elements to producing a beat and creating my sound. I took everything he taught me home and found myself getting deeper into who I was as a producer and what I wanted people to feel through my music.

From there, by age 11, I sold my first beat to my Uncle Lil’ Junior for $65. It felt pretty good, especially after all the hard work I was putting in. I kept practicing and selling beats as much as I could every day after school. At age 13, I started playing the keys at church every Sunday and continued to play through my high school graduation. After playing at church until I was 21, I decided in order to push myself even harder and elevate what I was doing, I needed to focus on it 100% so that I could reach my goals. That’s when I decided to leave the church and pursue producing full-time. I reached out to some people on social media and asked them if I could send them some beats, and from there, I got my start. My very first placement was “Pink Slip” with Lil’ Baby and Young Thug.

After I was able to get into the studio with YFN Lucci and land a placement on his first album called “No More/No Way At All.” I went on to get a placement on Quavo’s album, “Quavo Huncho,” named “Give It To ‘Em.” From there, my catalog began to grow. I worked with King Von and Lil’ Durk on the song “Down Me,” Rotimi on “Let Me Know,” Lil’ Boosie and Trouble on “Give No Fuck”. YFN Lucci and I did “P.O.E.T.,” “Think I Lost It,” and “Nasty” on several different projects. I also was able to get unreleased songs with O.T. Genesis and Rich Homie Quan.

I then worked again with Lil’ Baby and 42 Dugg on their single “Grace” that is on the now three times platinum album “My Turn.” I signed with Sony ATV shortly after that and have been working nonstop since. I most recently produced “Make Em Say” for NLE Choppa and Mulatto, as well as “Bankroll” for Rich the Kid and NBA Young Boy, and that’s where I am today. I’m still grinding and working hard every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest obstacle or challenge I’ve faced was leaving certain things or luggage behind while my flight to success took off. I never struggled with patience because I understood that nothing happens overnight. I knew that as long as I worked hard, the amount of time it took didn’t matter because I was always growing and getting better. I’ve went without gas in my car, my banking account being in the negative, sleeping on my mama’s living room floor, and many more challenges that would have made some people give up. With my determination, drive, and vision that I had for myself, I couldn’t do that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a music producer. I listen and critique every sound and instrument placement. I want people to feel my spirit when they listen to my beats and what I was able to do with them. I am most known for my melodic sound with heavy 808s. I like to play around with different keys and strings and then tie in some strong 808s to bring everything together.

I am most proud of accomplishing everything I set a goal for, such as, being a part of the #1 album “My Turn” and “Grace” going 2x Platinum, getting to partner with Sony ATV, as well as things that you guys will see coming soon. I believe what sets me apart is my DAW (software) that I use which is Reason. It’s the program I learned on and have been using ever since.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Very first, I want to thank God. My woman has played and continues to play a very major role. She was with me when I had nothing and is still by my side cheering me on. I also want to thank my family, my team and all my supporters.
