Exploring Life & Business with Tracey Massey of Living My EmPOWERed Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Massey.

Hi Tracey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Losing my daughter in 2006 started my journey of grieving, healing, and faith. There weren’t many resources out there for me to turn to that would help me understand and deal with the overwhelming grief I was experiencing. Suddenly, I had to figure out who I was without my daughter. My therapist had me make a list of goals I had put on hold to focus on raising my daughter. One of those goals was to become a Certified Life Coach. When I earned my certification and began coaching, my mentor and several friends of mine recognized a gift I had for helping people navigate their own grief journey. I then became a Certified Grief Coach and realized my unique voice was needed in this space. Today, I focus on teaching women affected by tragedy how to disrupt the cycle of grief through my group coaching program and one-on-one coaching.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth. It took the persistent persuasion of friends and mentors to get me to accept the calling of being a Grief Coach, despite having become a Certified Grief Coach in 2016. I fought it because nothing like me looks like grief. I barely made it through the certification because the instructor was depressing. Every person I followed on Social Media who specialized in grief depressed me. I had to get comfortable using my unique voice. I had to get comfortable showing women how I grieve and what I do to combat/deal with the grief. I still have to give myself pep talks and remind myself that my voice needs to be heard. Someone out there needs to see that you can live life after loss.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Living My EmPOWERed Life?
Living My EmPOWERed Life is inspired and created from a prayer my daughter wrote in her Bible. We focus on honoring our loved ones and teaching clients how to create and implement an action plan that helps them move forward. My mission is to impact 100 women in 2021. I have a new six month coaching program that will allow me work one-on-one with clients who are ready to thrive through grief.

I am super excited about kicking off another season of my podcast, The Charging Station. Picture this, it’s Friday night and you’ve made it through an incredibly busy week of virtual learning, working from home, meeting deadlines, and being everything. Your bestie calls and you decide to have the girls over for a little girl time. Your favorite beverage is flowing and the conversation is lit. The evening ends with your heart full, your energy recharged, and your spirit rejuvenated to help you make it through another day. This is the vibe of The Charging Station podcast. Your good sis, me, inviting you over to have a seat on the couch. We talk about everything faith, family, friends, and fun. I share my life shenanigans and include some chats with some of my favorite people. The podcast can be heard on Apple, Spotify, iHeart Radio or your preferred podcast listening platform. I want your readers to know that grief has no time limit; however, you can live a fulfilling life after loss.

What makes you happy?
It doesn’t take much to make me happy. After losing my daughter, I had to figure out what happiness meant to me. Things like sitting by the lake and listening to birds sing make me happy. Hearing a child’s laugh makes me happy. Spending time with the people I love, whether it be virtual or in-person, makes me happy. It’s the little things that I appreciate and make my heart smile.
