Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Corytte.
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Cocoon by Jasmine launched in October 2020 in the mist of the pandemic, after discovering the high level of support women wanted and needed all over the world. As a woman, I believe there can never be enough spaces or communities to remind us that regardless of where you live, your race or age, all women are battling similar challenges being a woman in today’s society.
After graduating from undergrad at Hampton University, I realize that I wasn’t prepared for life, let alone womanhood. It took several traumatizing experiences, spaces of discomfort and learning opportunities for me to realize that life isn’t created equal when it comes to women. From society dictating who and where you should be in life to the idea that we can’t have it all when it comes to motherhood and our careers… women need a spaces where they can be themselves unapologetically and evolve into the woman of their dreams.
The mission of Cocoon by Jasmine is to connect and empower women from all around the globe through a journey of self-discovery through sisterhood. Like a Cocoon in nature, this space is created to make women feel safe, be vulnerable and grow into the best versions of themselves possible. In my experience, I learned that women from all over the world speak the same language; womanhood and there is no better source of strength and understanding to pull from during a time of need than from your sister. It’s been almost a year and the platform has grown and continues to grow, quicker than I could imagine. Thanks to the love and support of friends, family and my universal tribe of sisters on social media.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Like most 1st-time business owners, Cocoon has had many obstacles but obstacles are opportunities to learn and come back stronger. Originally, the brand operated as a monthly membership club that offered women various resources in areas of finance, relationship, wellness and career. However, after five months of solo managing a private community, a quickly growing social media platform and allowing myself to be fully available to women in both spaces, I experienced burnout and many moments of discouragement.
Being that Cocoon by Jasmine is a platform that encourages and welcomes women to share their journeys in womanhood and get advice on how to maneuver in that space, I allowed myself to become fully accessible and lacked the ability to create boundaries to protect all the feelings one could experience when being a new business owner. After accepting where I went wrong and formulating a plan to prevent those challenges from reoccurring, I decided to lean in different direction and do what made me feel good, using my words and affirmations to inspire women to comfortably and confidently be themselves while transitioning through womanhood.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a full-time Program Manager for the United States Air force and a part-time content creator. The goal is to one day be a full-time content creator with a focus in writing and public speaking. While program management is the skill, I’m well at by trade, writing and making women feel like the best† versions of themselves is my passion. Currently, I am known for creating powerful affirmations and reminders for woman on social media and providing tips on how to maneuver through various avenues of womanhood.
Since creating this platform, I’m most proud of seeing how my words resonate with women all over the word. I’m also proud of how vulnerable women allow themselves to be in the space I created for us. Those moments are gentle reminders that I am not alone and I have the strength to get through anything. If I had to name something that sets me apart from others, it’s my personality. I’ve been told by many that I have the ability to light up a room and make people feel comfortable to be themselves. Some have even said I’m working in the wrong profession but I like to say that if “making people feel comfortable being themselves” is my gift, you can’t be a price tag on that.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson in my journey thus far has been to be patient with myself and patient with the results. As creatives, we’re very passionate about what we do and put a lot of work into the content we create for others. When that’s the case, it can become an emotional journey when you realize your work may not get the recognition you feel it deserves or is favored by your audience. I learned that your work is not meant to be liked and favored by everyone. Those that see the vision understand your work ethic and know its value will appreciate and support your work because they are the people you are meant to inspire.
