Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Giddens.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out by making a close friend of mine a tutu for her daughter. I watched a tutorial and I actually enjoyed making it, and seeing the joy on the little girls face when she danced around in it. I made a few more for a few close friends, but it wasn’t until I found out I was expecting my first girl that I began to take it a step further. I heard so many coworkers and friends say I should start selling my items and they were some of my first customers! I came up with the name from my daughter’s name and her love of Minnie mouse, hence, Mariah’s Bowtique. I began adding new things, sewing, making party decorations, etc.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of my biggest challenges has been pricing items. I’ve always wanted to keep my prices affordable and remain profitable at the same time.
What’s the hardest part of your job?
The hardest part is pricing. Each order varies in supply cost and design time. I try to have set prices, but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way!
What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
Success is different for each person. I believe that if you find something you love to do and are able to make a profit while doing it, you have found success. Everybody doesn’t get to do what they love, and I truly feel successful that I am able to do my passion.
So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
In the future, I would like to get into my own store. I have so many ideas and things I want to add I just need the space to expand. It can only get better from here!
