Daily Inspiration: Meet Vikki Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vikki Johnson.

Hi Vikki, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Following my north star is how I got here. From a young girl dreaming. to now a grown woman living those dreams and more, life has been a beautiful journey. I can honestly say I have done everything I’ve wanted to do. After donating a kidney to my cousin 16 years ago, every day since then has been a bonus. I live by the motto that “if it’s in my mind, it can be part of my lived experiences.”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I’ve had bumps, bruises and some blood shed along the way. I’ve overcome postpartum depression, bankruptcy, car repossession, foreclosure, miscarriage, betrayal, job loss and more. I can honestly say that God has kept me in my right mind. For that, I’m grateful.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known as a master photobomber (seriously), no one is safe when I’m around LOL. I am also a connector. Strong, healthy relationships are imperative in order to have a fulfilling life. We need each other. We heal, build and grown inside community.

I started a community of women leaders called SWMM (Soul Wealth Master Minds). This sacred sisterhood is an evolution of my Soul Wealth community which is an evolution of my Girl Talk Unplugged Community. My first girls club was called the Clover-Zodiacs, which I started at the age of ten. I have also been a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for 41 years initiated at Alpha Chapter, Howard University.

I am also known as a speaker, teacher/preacher, author, spiritual mentor, chaplain, sound bath facilitator, an Emmy Award winning media/entertainment veteran, a mom and a grandmother. One of the most notable accomplishments that I am very proud of is the work I did through the Rap-It-Up Campaign at BET Networks. This HIV/AIDS campaign became a blueprint for other media companies. Community advocacy and corporate social responsibility are my passion as well.

One of my most fulfilling projects is as host of The Soul Wealth Radio Show podcast on DCRadio.gov. I have over 600 episodes with my largest listening audience in Singapore. That blows me away!

Lastly, for the last ten years, I have been part of the film division as the lead for film permitting in the District of Columbia. Being an integral part of the film process here in DC has been very exciting.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
AI is changing a LOT of things. However, artificial intelligence will never replace human connection, care and compassion. AI is important because it is here and part of every, single aspect of life. However, authentic relationships are priceless – regardless of what industry a person engages.

As a member of the 2026 Class of the Recording Academy, I am excited to be in the room and part of the conversation regarding preserving the creative process in music and ensuring that the arts continue to keep up with trends while maintaining a strong sense of integrity.
