We caught up with Tiyonna to talk about finding her voice, overcoming creative setbacks, and the kind of impact she hopes her content will have long after the screen goes dark.

Hi Tiyonna, thanks so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to have you share your thoughts and insights with our readers. Your beauty content is about more than makeup, it’s about helping people discover their own style. Can you take us back to the moment you realized creating content could be a way to help others build confidence and express themselves?
Hi, of course, I want to thank you for allowing me to share my experiences and thoughts with you all. I’ve always wanted to help others by expressing my beauty in a distinctive way. To bring a specific moment or experience into this, I would say working at Sephora and Ulta helped me understand more about inner beauty and how to help others find it. Everyone has a story and that story shapes you into who you are, I find it special when you can turn that story into art.

You handle every part of the creative process yourself, from filming to editing. Can you share a behind-the-scenes story of a video that didn’t go as planned but ultimately taught you something valuable about creativity, consistency, or believing in your vision?
Yes, recording and editing your own material can sometimes be a challenge. When filming does not go as planned, it can get underwhelming and sometimes may leave me feeling overstimulated. I’ve learned that even though everything might not go as planned, you have to keep pushing, because the best content and art comes from things that didn’t go as planned. It also taught me to pay more attention to the details of how I want things to be done specifically. Such as how I want a certain angle to look or lighting, etc…

The beauty space is incredibly crowded, and it can be easy to compare yourself to others. Was there a turning point when you stopped trying to create what you thought people wanted and started embracing your own unique voice and style instead?
I agree that it can be easy to compare yourself to others. But what you have to understand in this space is that you bring something unique to the world. I learned that if you want to stand out, you have to be OK with being you. The best version of yourself comes from believing in you and who you are and not comparing because comparison is the thief of joy.

Everyone remembers a makeup look or creative project that changed the way they saw themselves. Is there a particular look you’ve created or a message you’ve received from a follower that reminded you your content was having an impact beyond beauty tips?
Actually, I have recently received a message that said I motivated them. It’s nice to know that others can view my content and see it as inspiring or motivating, especially with them being other creators or beauty enthusiasts. It’s nice to know that the hard work that I put into my content is noticed.

Learning to shoot and edit your own content takes patience and persistence. What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned from teaching yourself those skills, and how has that journey shaped your confidence both as a creator and as a person?
It’s inevitable that you run into challenges creating your own content, sometimes you have to reshoot a scene or redo a part of the look because the camera wasn’t recording. Since I have a passion for it, I don’t let it get to me or let it bring me down when I do face those challenges. It used to be a struggle area for me. Since I’ve gotten used to it, my confidence has gotten better. You also notice that as your confidence rises, the quality of your content gets better.

As your platform continues to grow, what do you hope people remember most about your content years from now? Beyond learning makeup techniques, how do you hope viewers feel after spending time in your corner of the internet?
This question is actually a really valuable one. I feel that my goal is to make your soul feel at ease. I don’t want it to feel like you wasted time giving me your attention. I hope that through my passion for beauty, I can teach you how to nourish your inner self. Through my laughs and quirks, I hope you can leave feeling lighter. Right now, I am still creating my space on the internet and I’m taking my time with it so I can make sure I have a genuine connection with my viewer. When I look at others on the internet, I try to find people that can help me navigate through this life and I hope that I can do the same for someone else.
