Inspiring Conversations with Nia George of Area West Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia George.

Nia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey has never been a straight line—it has been one of resilience, service, and constant reinvention.

I’ve spent much of my career helping people build better lives, whether through real estate, community leadership, health and wellness, or education. As the Broker (and working agent) of Area West Realty in Atlanta, I’ve had the privilege of helping families become homeowners, investors revitalize neighborhoods, and clients navigate one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. Along the way, I also discovered a passion for wellness, becoming a certified yoga teacher and group fitness instructor, where I help people improve not only their physical health but also their mental and emotional well-being.

Service to my community has always been at the heart of my work. For several years, I have served as Chair of Atlanta’s Neighborhood Planning Unit T (NPU-T), where I’ve worked alongside residents, city officials, and developers to advocate for thoughtful growth and equitable investment in Southwest Atlanta. I also serve with the Atlanta Land Bank Authority, supporting initiatives that return vacant and underutilized properties to productive use while helping strengthen neighborhoods and expand housing opportunities. These leadership roles have given me a unique perspective on community development and reinforced my belief that thriving neighborhoods are built through collaboration, advocacy, and long-term vision.

That same passion for serving others extends into health and wellness. As a certified yoga teacher and ACE Group Fitness Instructor, I’ve had the privilege of teaching throughout the Atlanta community—from the YMCA and neighborhood farmers markets to local breweries, community events, churches, schools, senior living communities, and more. These experiences have allowed me to make yoga accessible to people of all ages and abilities, creating spaces where individuals can improve their health, reduce stress, and build meaningful connections. Whether leading a chair yoga class for older adults, introducing beginners to movement at a community event, or encouraging wellness in unexpected spaces, I’ve learned that lasting impact often begins by simply meeting people where they are.

Over the years, I’ve also learned that meaningful change happens at the intersection of housing, health, education, and community—and I’ve been fortunate to contribute to each of those spaces.

My experiences haven’t always been easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve experienced seasons of uncertainty that challenged me to adapt, learn new skills, and trust the process. Rather than seeing those moments as setbacks, I’ve viewed them as opportunities for growth. Today, while continuing to serve my real estate clients and community, I’m pursuing a degree in psychology with the long-term goal of becoming a geriatric psychologist. I want to combine my passion for mental health, aging, and holistic wellness to support older adults and their caregivers.

Everything I do is connected by one purpose: helping people feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward. Whether I’m teaching a yoga class, mentoring someone through a home purchase, serving my community, or working toward my next career chapter, my goal is always the same—to leave people better than I found them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, one of my greatest challenges has been navigating the financial uncertainty that comes with building a purpose-driven business. When your work is centered on serving others—whether through real estate, wellness, or community development—you often find yourself asking when to keep pushing forward and when it’s time to pivot. That uncertainty can be difficult, especially when you’re trying to do meaningful work while also ensuring your business remains financially sustainable.

One of the hardest lessons has been realizing that not everyone who benefits from your work will remain committed to your vision. As markets shift and economic conditions change, relationships evolve, clients move on, and support can become inconsistent. It can be discouraging after pouring your time, energy, and heart into serving others.

As a small business owner, I’ve also had to compete with larger organizations that have bigger teams, larger marketing budgets, and resources that simply aren’t available to many independent entrepreneurs. You learn to become resourceful, wear multiple hats, and find creative ways to continue delivering value while staying true to your mission.

Like many businesses, we struggled during COVID—but what surprised me most was that many of those challenges continued long after the pandemic. The recovery wasn’t immediate, and for many small businesses, it still hasn’t been. There were moments when I questioned what the next step should be, but I never questioned my purpose.

Perhaps the greatest challenge has been maintaining faith, hope, and resilience through seasons of uncertainty. When you’re responsible not only for supporting your family but also for sustaining a business and a brand you’ve spent years building, the weight can feel overwhelming. Yet those experiences have strengthened my perseverance. They’ve taught me that success isn’t just measured by financial milestones—it’s also measured by the ability to continue showing up, adapting, serving others with excellence, and believing in the vision even when the path forward isn’t yet clear.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Area West Realty?
At the core of everything I do is a commitment to helping people build better lives. While many people know me as a Realtor with Area West Realty or a Mortgage Loan Originator with RealFinity, my work extends far beyond financing, buying, and selling homes.

Area West Realty specializes in residential real estate throughout Metro Atlanta, with a particular passion for serving Southwest Atlanta. We assist first-time homebuyers, sellers, investors, landlords, and clients seeking property management and consulting services. I also work with clients interested in neighborhood revitalization, investment opportunities, and creating long-term wealth through real estate ownership.

What sets me apart is that I don’t see transactions—I see people. Every client has a unique story, goals, fears, and dreams, and I believe they deserve an advocate who listens first and serves with integrity. My years of community leadership have given me a deep understanding of neighborhood development, housing policy, and the importance of preserving communities while encouraging thoughtful growth. That perspective allows me to guide clients with insight that extends beyond the property itself.

What I’m most proud of is that my brand has always been rooted in service rather than sales. I’ve worked to build a reputation based on trust, authenticity, compassion, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of others. I want people to know that when they work with me, they’re gaining more than a real estate broker or wellness instructor—they’re gaining someone who is deeply invested in helping them reach their goals and strengthen the communities we all call home.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
No one builds a meaningful business alone, and I have been incredibly fortunate to have people who have encouraged me through both the victories and the difficult seasons.

First and foremost, I have to acknowledge my business partner and Associate Broker, **Jerilyn Lewis**. Without her, I honestly believe I might have retired from real estate and gone off to teach yoga on a beach in Costa Rica! (And some days that still sounds pretty wonderful.) Through every market shift and challenge, she’s remained committed to our vision, our clients, and our business. Her loyalty, wisdom, and steady partnership have been invaluable, and I couldn’t imagine this journey without her.

I’d also like to recognize **Derrick Duckworth**, Realtor with Called It Closed International Realty. Derrick has consistently been a source of encouragement, fresh ideas, and honest conversations. Long before neighborhood revitalization became a popular topic, Derrick was deeply committed to serving and investing in Southwest Atlanta. His passion for the community and willingness to collaborate have been inspiring.

**Kelly Rambo**, Realtor, has been another incredible supporter. Our regular tea conversations have become a space to exchange ideas, challenge one another, and stay focused on growth. Kelly is always researching emerging technology, marketing strategies, and new tools that help us remain innovative and continue serving our clients at a high level.

Finally, I have to thank my yoga teacher and mentor, **Octavia Raheem**. She has influenced my life in ways that extend far beyond yoga. Through her prayers, wisdom, and example, she’s reminded me to trust the process, embrace rest, and continue leading with authenticity. There have even been seasons where participating in her programs and community quite literally helped keep our lights on. Her impact on both my personal and professional life has been immeasurable.

Beyond these individuals, I’m deeply grateful to my family, clients, students, neighbors, and community members who have trusted me over the years. Every conversation, referral, yoga class, closing, and opportunity to serve has helped shape the person and professional I am today. I truly believe success is never achieved alone—it’s built through relationships, shared purpose, and people who continue believing in you, even when you’re finding your way.
