Today we’d like to introduce you to Desha Henfield.
Hi Desha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started as a young woman with a desire to serve, make a difference, and build a better future. That desire led me to join the U.S. Navy, become the first in my family to serve in the military, and later become the first to earn a college degree. My journey was shaped by leadership, resilience, and a commitment to helping others.
Dealing with life’s challenges, it tried to convince me that what had happened to me would define me. God had a different plan.
I remember a moment in worship when I heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “Come back to you.” Not the version of me shaped by pain, titles, expectations, or survival but the woman he created before life covered her light. That invitation changed everything. My healing became intentional. My faith became deeper. My purpose became undeniable.
I learned that healing isn’t about pretending you were never hurt; it’s about refusing to let your wounds write the final chapter. Every setback became an invitation to rise. Every closed door redirected me toward a greater assignment. I now understand that some of God’s greatest acts of protection come disguised as rejection.
Today, I have the privilege of serving as a minister, speaker, author, publisher, and founder of Butterfly Collective Enterprises, where I create spaces for transformation, healing, and authentic leadership. I also facilitate a monthly empowerment group where women are encouraged to remove the masks, rediscover their identity, and embrace the truth that they are worthy of healing, joy, and purpose.
Whether I’m speaking from a stage, writing a book, leading a workshop, or sitting across from someone who simply needs to be seen, my mission remains the same: to help people heal at the root so they can reveal who they were always created to be.
People often ask what the butterfly means to me. It’s more than a logo; it’s my testimony. Butterflies aren’t born flying. Before there is beauty, there is hidden work. Before there are wings, there is surrender. Transformation is rarely comfortable, but it is always worth it.
If there is one thing I hope people remember about my story, it isn’t my titles or accomplishments. I hope they remember that healing is possible. That purpose can be born from pain. That God still specializes in restoration.
My greatest accomplishment isn’t the titles I’ve earned; it’s creating spaces where people feel safe enough to heal, courageous enough to grow, and empowered enough to become who God always intended them to be.
My story is proof that you can survive what tried to break you and still become someone who helps others believe they can fly.
Because at the end of the day, I don’t want people to simply admire my journey I want them to believe in the possibility of their own.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth; it has been a journey of resilience, healing, and growth. As a survivor of Military Sexual Trauma, I had to navigate the emotional weight of trauma, PTSD, depression, and anxiety while continuing to show up in my personal and professional life.
One of my greatest challenges was carrying battles that many people could not see. I learned how to smile, lead, and pour into others while privately working through feelings of unworthiness, self-doubt, fear, and negative thoughts. Raising my children while managing my own healing journey was not easy, but it taught me strength, perseverance, and the power of continuing forward even when life feels heavy.
Through faith, self-reflection, and healing, I began to understand that my experiences did not diminish my worth; they revealed my resilience. The struggles I faced became part of my purpose. They gave me compassion for others and a deeper desire to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.
We’ve been impressed with Butterfly Collective Enterprises , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Through Butterfly Collective Enterprises, I specialize in creating transformational experiences that help individuals heal, grow, and step into their purpose. My work centers around trauma-informed empowerment, authentic leadership, personal growth, and helping people rediscover their voice.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach from knowledge; I serve from lived experience. I understand what it means to overcome adversity, rebuild confidence, and rise after difficult seasons. My approach combines faith, compassion, vulnerability, and practical tools to help others move from surviving to thriving.
I want readers to know that what I offer is more than a service; it is a safe space for transformation. Whether through speaking, workshops, writing, Morning Manna messages, or the monthly empowerment group I facilitate, my goal is to help people heal at the root, reveal who they were created to be, and walk boldly in their purpose.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is that God is always with me. In my highest moments and my most challenging seasons, he has been my source of strength, comfort, and direction. I have learned that even when I could not see the way forward, God was still working behind the scenes, preparing me, protecting me, and reminding me that my purpose was greater than my pain.
