Daily Inspiration: Meet DQ Styles

Today we’d like to introduce you to DQ Styles.

Hi DQ, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into fashion and wardrobe styling began with a passion for helping people feel confident through what they wear. Inspired by shows like What Not to Wear when I was little , I realized early on that fashion is about more than clothing—it’s about telling a story, creating confidence, and leaving a lasting impression.

I started by styling friends, local creatives, and artists, and through consistency, hard work, and trusting my vision, I built my brand, Styles By DQ. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to become a five-time award-winning wardrobe stylist, have my work featured on The Jennifer Hudson Show, style editorials and campaigns, and produce my own fashion events that celebrate creativity and culture.

Today, I specialize in personal, editorial, commercial, and celebrity styling, while also offering creative direction and wardrobe consulting. My mission has remained the same from day one: to create unforgettable styling moments that not only elevate a person’s image but also help them step confidently into their purpose. Every project is an opportunity to turn a vision into an experience, and I’m excited to continue growing while inspiring others through fashion.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many creatives, I’ve faced moments of self-doubt, financial challenges, and opportunities that didn’t always go the way I hoped. There were times when people underestimated my vision or didn’t see the value of investing in a wardrobe stylist. I’ve also had to learn how to balance being the creative behind the work while running the business side of my brand.

One of the biggest lessons has been staying consistent, even when things felt slow. Every setback taught me something—whether it was about business, relationships, or believing in my purpose. Those experiences made me stronger, sharpened my craft, and reminded me that success isn’t built overnight. Today, I appreciate the journey because every obstacle helped shape the stylist, creative director, and entrepreneur I am becoming

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a wardrobe stylist, creative director, and fashion visionary specializing in editorial styling, celebrity and artist wardrobe, commercial campaigns, runway productions, and personal styling. Through my brand, Styles By DQ, my mission is simple: every client should experience a styling moment that makes them feel confident, seen, and unforgettable.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to style for television, music videos, editorials, live performances, and major events. My work has been featured on The Jennifer Hudson Show, in Sheen Magazine, and on a Times Square billboard in New York City. I’m also a five-time award-winning stylist, including receiving the Award of Excellence in Fashion.

What I’m most proud of is creating opportunities—not only for myself but for others. From producing sold-out fashion shows to mentoring emerging creatives and building experiences that celebrate fashion as art, I strive to leave a lasting impact. I believe styling is more than putting clothes together; it’s about telling a story, building confidence, and creating moments people never forget.

What sets me apart is my ability to see the complete vision. I don’t just style outfits—I create concepts, develop creative direction, and bring ideas to life with purpose and intention. Every look is curated to reflect the client’s identity while elevating their brand. My focus isn’t on following trends; it’s on creating timeless moments that leave a lasting impression.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Atlanta is its culture, diversity, and creative energy. It’s a city where fashion, music, film, and entrepreneurship all thrive, creating endless opportunities to connect, collaborate, and grow. I also appreciate how Atlanta supports Black-owned businesses and creatives, making it an inspiring place to build a brand and leave a lasting impact.

What I like least is the traffic and the city’s rapid growth, which has made housing more expensive and some neighborhoods more difficult to access. While Atlanta continues to evolve, balancing that growth with affordability and infrastructure is important to preserve what makes the city so unique.
