Rising Stars: Meet Promise McClain of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Promise McClain.

Hi Promise, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little girl, I always felt like I was meant to be in the entertainment industry. Movies were my escape, and I fell in love with storytelling at a very young age. I still remember watching my first Marvel movie when I was around five years old, and from that moment I was captivated by film.

I didn’t have the easiest childhood, but instead of letting my experiences define me, I chose to channel them into acting. Acting became a safe place where I could express emotions, tell meaningful stories, and transform pain into purpose.

I began taking acting classes, studying the craft, and rebuilding myself both personally and professionally. One of my biggest inspirations has always been Marilyn Monroe. She inspired me to create a new chapter in my life, which is why I chose to pursue my career under the name Promise Aureila instead of using my government last name. It represents the person I’ve grown into and the future I’m building.

I also embraced my signature freckles because they helped me feel more connected to the characters I portray and gave me the confidence to express myself authentically. Today, I’m focused on continuing to grow as an actress, telling stories that move people, and building a lasting career in film and television.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been anything but easy. There were times when I was couch surfing, experiencing homelessness, and wondering where my next meal would come from or when my next acting opportunity would arrive. Those moments tested me in ways I never imagined.

Along the way, I also had to make difficult personal decisions. I chose to distance myself from some family members because setting healthy boundaries became necessary to protect my mental health and my future. It wasn’t an easy choice, but it was the right one for me.

I still carry some of the emotional weight from what I experienced growing up, and healing is an ongoing journey. But every challenge has made me stronger, more resilient, and more determined to succeed.

Today, I can honestly say I’m one step closer to the dream I’ve worked so hard for. I’m incredibly grateful to have booked a film that will be shooting overseas this September. While I can’t share many details yet, it’s a milestone that reminds me perseverance truly pays off. I’m excited for what’s ahead and hopeful that this is just the beginning of many more opportunities in my acting career.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actress and writer with a passion for telling meaningful, emotionally driven stories. While I can’t disclose everything I’m currently working on due to confidentiality agreements, I’m excited about the projects ahead and the opportunities continuing to come my way.

I’m best known for my work in the short film 988 Awareness, along with several other independent film projects that have helped me grow as a performer. Every role has strengthened my craft and reinforced my commitment to authentic storytelling.

What sets me apart is my ability to bring real emotion and lived experience into my performances. I believe vulnerability creates the most powerful stories, and I strive to portray characters with honesty, depth, and compassion. As both an actress and writer, my goal is to create and be part of projects that inspire, spark conversations, and leave a lasting impact on audiences.

I’m incredibly proud to be taking the next step in my career, including an upcoming international film project, and I’m excited to continue growing as an artist.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that networking isn’t about collecting contacts, it’s about building genuine relationships. Some of the best opportunities I’ve received came from simply being kind, professional, and staying consistent with my work.

I believe mentors naturally come into your life when you’re willing to learn, listen, and put in the work. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, take acting classes, attend industry events, or introduce yourself to people whose work you admire. Every conversation has the potential to open a new door.

My advice is to stay authentic and never compare your journey to someone else’s. Everyone’s path is different. Keep improving your craft, show up prepared, and let your work speak for itself. Rejection is part of the industry, but persistence is what separates those who give up from those who eventually succeed.

I’m still learning every day, and I believe the best mentor is someone who not only believes in your talent but also challenges you to become a better artist and person. For me, every experience, every audition, and every role has been another lesson on the road to building the career I’ve always dreamed of.
