Today we’d like to introduce you to Kanise.

Kanise, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Originally from Tallahassee Florida, I moved up with my band to fully pursue music. So far performing at Eddie’s attic and Smith’s olde bar. My goal is to reinvent my life, tell my stories and articulate my thought to the world through music. With my current goal, releasing and performing music this upcoming August.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve faced many struggles of being in a small town, to finally moving just to face job and financially security. Plus, trying to book gigs in a large city, where no one knows who you are. But things are really looking up and I’m very grateful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a singer songwriter from Florida who made a name for herself in her hometown by combining sultry vocals with biting lyrics. I’m super proud of booking one of my first festivals, porch fest, recently. Also I have a live session with fitfo labs showcasing me and my band at the time, consisting of Aaron, Sammy, and Jovan. I’m very proud of putting myself out there and experiencing art to my fullest abilities.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
So far it’s been a mix of meeting people through performing live and posting online. The more people that see you, the more you can meet new people and learn from them. My main mentors have been my parents who’ve been really supportive, especially since my mom is musically inclined, and AD, owner of the studio I worked at, Goldie Sound Productions. Where I learned to take music professionally and that it’s a business.
