Check Out Ryan Stephens’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Stephens.

Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story isn’t an overly complicated one—I’ve always loved music. When I got to middle school, I’d often freestyle in the lunchroom and write my own raps over established artists’ tracks. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school, when I was seventeen, that I started taking it seriously. That’s when I began making my own songs and became confident enough to start sharing them with other people. From there, the rest is history.

As my career has grown, I’ve realized I’m passionate about creating opportunities not just for myself, but for other artists too. That’s what led me to launch Prominence Presents New Music Showcase, a platform that gives independent artists a place to perform, connect, and be discovered.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’d definitely say it’s been a difficult one—not necessarily because of the music itself, but because of everything else I’ve had to navigate in life. Football, school, adulthood, and simply trying to figure out who I am as the years go by. Staying committed to music while balancing all of those responsibilities hasn’t been easy in the slightest.

At the same time, every challenge has helped shape me as both an artist and a person. Learning to stay disciplined through life’s ups and downs has made me appreciate every opportunity that’s come my way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist, but outside of music I’m currently a college student working toward a degree in English. I love all forms of writing, whether it’s songwriting, storytelling, or even academic writing—I never get tired of it.

That passion for writing recently led me to complete my first high fantasy novel featuring African American characters, something I’m incredibly proud of because representation in fantasy is so important to me. Whether I’m writing music or fiction, I want to tell stories that connect with people.

While I specialize in hip-hop, I can write just about any kind of song that comes to mind, and that’s something I’m very proud of. I believe my versatility, along with my willingness to experiment with ideas that others might dismiss, is what truly sets me apart.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
The last thing I’ll leave everyone with is this: be on the lookout for new music coming soon. I’ve got one hell of an album that I’m getting ready to release, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

Beyond the music, I’m continuing to grow Prominence Presents New Music Showcase and look forward to sharing my first fantasy novel when the time is right. I want to keep creating—whether it’s through music, live events, or storytelling—and I’m excited for people to see everything that’s coming next. Stay tuned.
