Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert DeBeaumont.
Hi Robert, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Daddyball University started as a joke. I was in a groupchat with other coaches, being a class clown, I thought of a funny gag. I took an old blank hat and used markers from my son’s room, wrote the words Daddyball U, on it. I sent a picture in the chat that, Chris, you left your hat in my truck. He was a Head Coach who’s kid plays shortstop. Everyone laughed. 10 mins of artwork for a 20 second joke. From there I sat on the idea using the Term Daddyball Univeristy for about a year. Often saying I should make a video about. Or I am gooing to make a Daddyball Video about this. Then one day a year after the hat was made, I took a $20 mic and $10 tripod I bought off Amazon, walked out my door and went to a local field. I sat on the bed of my truck and talked about travel ball. It did surprisingly well and I got a rush from it. I have been making videos ever since.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Consistency is hard. I work full time. I also coach baseball. So carving out the time without taking away from the teams I coach or from what pays my bills can be tough. Throw in coming up with consistent ideas or just dealing with burnout in general. All of these are tough. But I really do enjoy it, and as its grown I can see the joy others have with it. That keeps me going
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have always been a class clown so making comedic videos on a topic like sports, comes pretty easy. A friend from HS who I hadn’t spoken too in 20 years DMd me and said watching my videos is like being in huddle or a dugout with me from High School. That is what makes it so fun. I am not acting too much. Just being the same ridiculous over the top person I have always been. The only difference is I am ready a script thats written.
How do you define success?
Success is waking up every day and doing something you truly enjoy. And if that something can bring joy to others in the process then it’s a double bonus
