Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Pink.
Hi Holly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a small town in Iowa where most people’s destiny includes drug addiction and poverty.
I have lost a lot of friends along the way.
The universe took me to Chicago in my early twenties and I had never experienced life in a city, or really anywhere outside of my farmland bubble. Someone told me my life had a purpose once, after the traumatic death of more than one friend as a teen and I never ever forgot those words. They repeated in my head over and over.
When I arrived in Chicago, I realized my purpose included being here. It felt magical. I drove by a random beauty school on the Southside and thought “That’s what Im going to do with my life and that’s how I’m going to get to Chicago”
Previously I had been super lost, working in the service industry and living a party filled life. That beauty school was Paul Mitchell the school Chicago and one year later, I was there and it changed the trajectory of my entire life. I had no idea I could make people feel good and make money doing it. I had no idea that I, a girl from the middle of nowhere, could own my own business.
When I was in beauty school I got really into makeup and had the opportunity to take classes with well known old school artists as well as attend NAHA. I ended up up in a 2 year apprenticeship program in a salon because I needed a steady paycheck and fast forward learned bridal styling.
Now I own my salon business: Holly Pink Professional as well as a skincare line, BodyLove (a natural and vegan line with 2 products so far) which Im currently looking for funding in order to mass produce, and I co-own a new mobile hair and makeup company for events and weddings called Glitter City Glam. I practice transcendental meditation and spend my free time as a soccer mom and traveling the world. I am also writing a memoir which will hopefully inspire younger generations of women to go after their own goals and to realize that they too have a purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. The biggest struggle of my life was becoming a parent and losing my mom shortly after. Life will always throw obstacles at you. Always. You just have to know that whatever it is, you can get through it. Your purpose will keep you going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make people feel good. That is my biggest goal. Anybody can do hair, but people will always remember how you made them feel.
In the salon I specialize in blonding and extensions. I do bridal hair every Saturday. I am known for being punctual and on time, and for creating beautiful results. I am most proud of my resiliency and my drive, my perseverance and my ability to pivot as well as being able to incorporate my work into my love of travel. I had the opportunity to do hair and makeup in Italy in 2024 as well as travel to Hong Kong for a beauty show in 2023. Im really proud of that.
I believe that what sets me apart from others is following my spirituality, the way I make people feel more confident and my ability to visualize a better future than past.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Keep going. You will have setbacks and you will at some point question whether you are on the right path. It is always okay to pivot and take breaks. Always follow your heart and your intuition. Self care and keeping your body healthy is very important in the beauty industry. Also, it takes money to make money, but make sure you’re making the right investments in your education. Always keep learning. Knowledge can never be taken away from you.
