Life & Work with Katie Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Garcia.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I first got into the EDM scene back in 2019 when I went to my first festival in Dallas, Texas called Lights All Night. After that, EDM was all I listened to. From 2019-2024 I was just a fan of the music and would attend different festivals and shows as often as I could. Around September 2024 I started playing around on some friends DJ board and fell in love with it. I then bought my own board and was determined to become good enough to where I could perform in actual shows in front of a crowd. Four months later in January 2025, I performed in my first show which just so happened to be a really important show that was put on by the festival, Dancefestopia. After, I have been performing every month minus one. I have now performed with major national artists such as: CRANKDAT, LUCI, DIRTYSNATCHA, AHEE, RUVLO and MUSHROOM CLOUD.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggles came from the beginning and it had to do with other DJ’s in my city not wanting to have more competition AKA me. That’s the only nice way I can think to say that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have my bachelor’s degree in marketing from Arkansas State University. I am able to use those skills to help grow my DJ career. For the shows that I put on myself, I design all of the flyers, promotions, and help organize events with other local DJs. I’ve always enjoyed being involved behind the scenes just as much as I enjoy performing.

I’m also one of the founders of Unity Sounds, a bass music collective I started with three other DJs. Our goal is to bring the local bass community together by creating opportunities for artists, supporting one another, and throwing events that help the scene continue to grow.

On top of that, I work closely with the owner of two of the biggest venues in Little Rock to help plan and put together shows featuring both local artists and nationally touring acts. Being involved on both the performance and event production side has given me the chance to make a real impact on Arkansas’s bass music scene, and I’m excited to keep helping it grow.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Probably traveling to soccer tournaments with my family and teammates. I played soccer for 13 years. It was a huge part of my life and I loved being a part of a great team.
