Meet Cristiana Oprea of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristiana Oprea.

Hi Cristiana , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was always drawn to arts for some reason. My parents would tell me I never left the house without my sketchbook and pencils. It wasn’t until much later, around 16 years old, when I started doing portraits. I loved a good challenge.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely not easy. I had a lot of roadblocks along the way. Art, for me, was an escape. A way I could fill a void in my life. A great loss in my family made me pick up my pencil and draw my feelings away but there were times when I simply stopped and wanted to quit.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in charcoal portraits, baby portraits to be exact. There’s just something special about drawing sweet, innocent babies who are full of expression. I’m most proud of not giving up years ago and continuing to show up even when my life got so busy with three boys to raise.
I believe each artist has developed their own unique style and technique and you can see all that in their work. I surely have my own way of blending and adding layers of details to give my pieces life.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I had the best art mentor back in Romania. (oh yes, I forgot to mention, I moved here to the USA in 2018)
He was God sent in my senior year. We still keep in touch, although not as often.
I would advise other artists starting out to find that mentor in schools or any local art groups within their community.
