How I Got to Where I Am Today

If someone had told me years ago that I would be where I am today, I’m not sure I would have believed them. I knew it was possible, however, my journey wasn’t a straight line—it was filled with unexpected turns, moments of doubt, and opportunities that challenged me to grow.

I didn’t begin my career with all the answers. I started with curiosity, a willingness to work hard, and a desire to make a meaningful impact. Early on, I discovered that success isn’t about having the perfect plan; it’s about being open to learning, adapting, and continuing to move forward even when the path isn’t clear.

Throughout my career, I’ve encountered setbacks that forced me to rethink my approach and celebrate wins that reminded me of why I started in the first place. Each experience taught me something valuable about resilience, leadership, and the importance of staying true to my values. The people who believed in me, mentored me, and challenged me also played an important role in shaping my journey.

Looking back, I realize that every step—even the difficult ones—prepared me for the opportunities that I have today. What once felt like obstacles became lessons that strengthened my confidence and broadened my perspective.

If there’s one message that I hope readers take away from my story, it’s that your career doesn’t have to follow a perfect roadmap. Growth comes from embracing challenges, remaining curious, and trusting that every experience has something to teach you. I’m grateful for the journey that brought me here, and I’m excited to see where the next chapter leads.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Walk Us Through Your Story – How You Started and How You Got to Where You Are Today.

My journey has not been a smooth road. If there is one thing I know deeply, it is what it means to overcome—to live through discomfort while holding tightly to hope. My story is a story of reconstruction, resilience, and learning how to be resourceful when resources seemed scarce.

When I reflect on how I got here, I always begin with my ancestors. I believe that every generation is entrusted with building upon the foundation laid by those who came before us. We inherit more than their struggles; we inherit their strength, their perseverance, and their unfinished work. Their sacrifices gave me a starting place, and I felt a responsibility to continue building something greater—not only for myself, but for my children and for those whose lives might one day be impacted by mine.

The beginning was not easy. My ancestors endured hardships that created opportunities my generation had never known. Even so, there were still mountains to climb. I wanted to create a different future for my family—one where education, opportunity, and entrepreneurship could become part of our legacy.

That dream required faith. It meant believing in possibilities I couldn’t yet see. At 18 years old, I left for college with no savings, no trust fund, and very little understanding of how to navigate higher education. What I did have was something far more valuable: parents who believed in the power of education, a teacher who recognized potential in me before I fully recognized it in myself, and a small academic scholarship. It wasn’t enough to cover everything, but it was more than I had, and it was enough to take the first step.

One person, in particular, changed the trajectory of my life—my high school English teacher. He believed in me more than I believed in myself. His encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities that once felt beyond my reach. Looking back, I realize how life-changing it is when someone sees your potential before you do.

The road ahead was anything but easy. Every dream seemed to begin as a barrier. Financial obstacles, personal challenges, uncertainty, and fear often felt like immovable mountains. There were moments when the destination seemed impossible to reach, and there were times when I questioned whether I belonged in the spaces I was working so hard to enter.

But I kept going.

I learned to be resourceful. I learned to lead with faith rather than fear. I learned that resilience is built one decision at a time, and that perseverance often matters more than having the perfect circumstances.

Today, when I look back, I don’t see someone who had every advantage. I see a small-town girl who simply wanted a better life—a life filled with purpose, opportunity, and the ability to create something meaningful for others. That dream has become my reality, not because the journey was easy, but because I refused to let obstacles define my future.

My story is proof that where you begin does not determine how far you can go, but you must begin. Faith, education, hard work, and the willingness to keep moving forward can change the trajectory of a life. If my journey inspires even one person to believe that they, too, can overcome the mountains in front of them, then every challenge I faced was worth it.

We’ve been impressed with Firm: C3 Innovations LLC (Ga)- Tech Consulting & Innovative Solutions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Professionally, I have experienced the fruit of pursuing a degree in software engineering. While I initially believed my education would simply prepare me for a career in technology, it ultimately became the foundation for so much more. The technical knowledge I gained opened doors, but it was the intangible skills—critical thinking, resilience, problem-solving, adaptability, and the confidence to tackle complex challenges—that carried me into places I never imagined.

Those skills became the catalyst for a journey that extended far beyond engineering. These attributes led me into entrepreneurship, philanthropy, leadership, mentorship, and opportunities to create meaningful impact in the lives of others. What began as a pursuit of a profession evolved into a calling to build, innovate, and serve.

Looking back, I realize there was always a blueprint taking shape. At first, it was subconscious—I simply followed opportunities, learned through experience, and remained open to growth. Eventually, it became intentional. I understood that success isn’t only about earning a seat at someone else’s table; sometimes it requires building a table where others are welcomed, valued, and given opportunities to thrive.

Building that table has been anything but easy. It has required trial and error, courage, humility, and a willingness to learn from failure. Every setback became a lesson, every challenge refined my vision, and every success reminded me that the greatest accomplishments are rarely achieved alone. Today, I see leadership not as reaching the top, but as creating pathways for others to rise alongside you.
