Life & Work with Madison Weisenseel of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Weisenseel.

Hi Madison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I entered the event industry as a bar manager for a boutique hotel in the Chattanooga area. After some time as acting lead for events, I wanted a more involved role in event planning.

I took a chance and accepted a position as an event assistant for the Convention Center. This, in turn, led to further opportunities, landing me as an event coordinator at a high-end venue in our area.

After a few years, I was promoted to manager of the department, taking on our fundraising galas as well as our external rentals. While this was an incredibly fulfilling, engaging, and challenging role, I found that there was still something missing for me. Having a degree in the arts, I have always been a creativity-driven individual, and I wanted to find a way to utilize my passion in an event-focused way.

I never dreamed it would lead me to this incredibly niche industry of wedding invitations, signage, calligraphy, and branding, much less graphic design. I was able to use the relationships I had built throughout my time on the planning side to grow my business into what it is today: a career!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As most entrepreneurs know, it’s not an easy road. I had my share of struggles along the way. For the longest time, Mad Sun Studio was just a side hustle.

So, while ensuring I was keeping it afloat, I was also working a demanding full-time job, raising a newborn, and struggling to define my identity in design. When challenges arose I would take a step back and allow myself some time to intentionally guide my business in the right direction.

Sometimes, this meant taking on select projects that best fit my brand or allowing myself some extra time to breathe and realize it’s okay to not know sometimes.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and principal designer of Mad Sun Studio. We offer full-service bespoke invitation design, curated handmade signage, modern (yet timeless) nib & ink calligraphy, and event branding.

My knowledge of all of the aspects of the event industry helps me to guide clients towards not only beautiful designs but functional ones as well. My process is hands-on and client-centered. Professionalism, timeliness, communication, and client care are primary pillars of my practice. I want to offer a luxury experience to every couple (or business) that chooses me.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
To me, success is client satisfaction.

While I absolutely love the process of design, the tactile creation process, and the individuality we can bring to the client’s products, nothing makes me feel more successful than the amount of joy and easement of stress I bring them.
