Today we’d like to introduce you to Sly And KartierDaDon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our voices entered the conversation in 2020, when two creatives decided to turn their chemistry, opinions, laughter, and love for culture into something of their own: The Melting Pot Podcast.
We’re Sly and Kartierdadon, the voices behind The Melting Pot. What started as an idea between two creatives grew into a platform where we could mix culture, entertainment, personal experiences, hot takes, and the conversations happening in our communities.
When we first started, the podcast wasn’t supposed to be anything overly serious. We wanted to have fun, laugh, and create something lighthearted. Our very first episode was actually about our favorite wing flavors. Looking back, that feels pretty fitting because The Melting Pot has always been about bringing different things together.
Some of our earliest episodes date back to 404 Day, which is especially meaningful to us because of what Atlanta represents. It’s a time to be outside, enjoy good food, connect with the community, and celebrate our city and everything it has to offer. Atlanta has been a huge part of our story and has continued to inspire the conversations, culture, and energy we bring to the show.
Getting here definitely hasn’t been a straight line. We’ve had to learn the production side, develop the identity of the podcast, figure out how to consistently create content, and learn what it really takes to build an audience. There has been plenty of trial and error along the way, but every episode, every idea, and every obstacle has taught us something and pushed us to become better creators.
Over time, The Melting Pot began to grow beyond just two people sitting down and talking. It became a space where conversations could be funny one minute, serious the next, and completely unpredictable after that. That freedom has always been part of what makes the show feel like us.
The name “The Melting Pot” represents exactly what we wanted the show to be: different personalities, perspectives, backgrounds, experiences, and opinions all coming together in one place. We can talk about culture, entertainment, relationships, personal experiences, current conversations, or something completely random, and somehow it all belongs at the table.
That’s the beauty of The Melting Pot. There isn’t just one flavor, one perspective, or one type of conversation.
There’s room for all of it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but smooth, and we can honestly say we are earning every part of this journey.
From the beginning, we had to learn how to make this work from two separate cities about two and a half hours apart. Even recording an episode required planning, coordination, and commitment. We had to work around different schedules, responsibilities, and lives outside the podcast.
The Melting Pot was also born during the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most uncertain times any of us had experienced. The world was changing daily, people were isolated, businesses were closing, events were canceled, and normal life had come to a halt.
In the middle of that uncertainty, we wanted to be a voice people could hear. Since people could not experience the world as they normally would, we wanted to bring the world to them through laughter, culture, entertainment, and honest conversation. We wanted The Melting Pot to be a place people could turn to when so much of the world felt disconnected.
Building the show was not easy. We were learning technology, production, virtual recording, scheduling, content creation, and audience engagement while working from different cities. But somehow, we made it work.
Time management has been one of our biggest lessons. The Melting Pot requires much more than turning on a microphone and having a conversation. There is research, guest outreach, scheduling, recording, editing, content creation, promotion, social media, and constant planning for the future.
We are also both perfectionists, which has been both a blessing and a challenge. We care about the quality of what we release, so we have spent hours reviewing recordings and refining every detail. If a guest conversation did not meet our standards or fit the identity of The Melting Pot, we were willing to cut it, even after investing significant time, energy, and money.
We would rather release fewer episodes that represent us well than publish something simply to have content.
Finding the right guests has also been a process. We are not interested in bringing someone on solely because they have a large following. We look for people who match our energy, speak with passion and compassion, feel comfortable being themselves, and are willing to tell it like it is.
Anyone sitting at the table with us has to be open to a real conversation. We want guests to bring something genuine, whether that is their story, perspective, expertise, or personality. Sometimes someone looks perfect on paper, but the chemistry is not there. We have learned to trust our instincts and protect the atmosphere we have created.
Another challenge has been balancing our friendship with our business partnership. When you are building something with someone close to you, those roles can easily overlap. We have had to learn when we are having a business conversation and when we are simply being friends. We are still working on that because one idea can quickly turn a casual conversation into a creative meeting.
Our passion is one of our greatest strengths, but we have also had to learn to step away from the show when necessary.
We have also learned that support does not always come from the people we expect. We naturally assumed that friends and family would be the first to watch, share, comment, and promote what we were building. That has not always been the case.
Instead, some of our strongest support has come from people we have never met. Listeners across the country and around the world have watched, shared our content, sent encouraging messages, and believed in The Melting Pot. It has been humbling to see a conversation recorded in front of a microphone reach someone in another city, state, or country and make them laugh, think, or feel seen.
We have learned that sometimes your community grows far beyond the one you started with.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At its core, The Melting Pot is about conversation. We’re creators, hosts, storytellers, and culture enthusiasts who use podcasting as a way to connect people, ideas, and experiences. We specialize in creating conversations that feel natural and authentic while giving our guests the space to be themselves.
One of the things we’re most proud of is how far the platform has taken us and the people we’ve been fortunate enough to connect with along the way. We’ve had the opportunity to speak with politicians, musicians, comedians, and other notable voices across different industries. Being invited to Tina Knowles’ book event is a moment that stands out to us because it felt like one of those full-circle reminders that the work we’ve been consistently putting into this brand is reaching spaces and people we once could only imagine.
We’re also incredibly proud of the community we’ve built. Our reach has grown far beyond Atlanta, connecting us with listeners and supporters in different countries and communities around the world. Even having a few notable names in the entertainment industry follow and engage with our work is something we don’t take for granted. Those moments mean a lot because they remind us that the conversations we’re creating here in Atlanta can resonate far beyond the city that inspired us.
And honestly, we’re proud of the consistency. Six years is a long time to continue showing up, especially when there were moments when we genuinely wanted to give up. There were times when the growth felt slow and when we questioned whether people were paying attention. But then we’d see the audience continue to grow, receive support from people who had been following us for years, or have someone we admired recognize our work. Those moments reminded us why we started.
More than anything, we’re grateful. Grateful for every person who has listened, followed, shared an episode, supported us, invited us into a room, sat down for a conversation, or simply believed in what we were building. What makes us proud isn’t just the opportunities we’ve received, but the fact that we built something from the ground up and stayed committed long enough to watch it evolve.
We started with an idea, a love for conversation, and a desire to create something of our own. Six years later, The Melting Pot has become a growing community, a creative platform, and a brand that continues to open doors we never expected. We’re grateful for how far we’ve come, excited about where we’re going, and still finding new flavors to bring to the table.
