Life & Work with Clayton Wyatt of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clayton Wyatt.

Hi Clayton, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved music. It’s always moved me, not unlike most people. I first picked up the guitar in middle school. Some of my friends would bring in their guitars and play them during lunch. I’d play one every chance I got until I was able to get one of my own. I only had interest in playing guitar until I heard the voice of Dallas Green for the first time. At that moment I knew I wanted to write and sing songs. The Current version of that is a project I am currently invested in called Trappers Pass.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s never a fully smooth road. Many ups and many downs are a regular thing when you want something so bad that doesn’t always feel attainable. Like many, a lot of my struggles come with wondering if I even what it takes to make a dream work. I have put the dream down many times and have picked it back up just as much. I have a big tour coming up next month so I am currently feeling hopeful for the future.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I write songs under the name Trappers Pass. There are times in life when the question of “what do you do” becomes difficult to answer. That is most of my life, but currently, it is easy to say I write songs and perform them to whoever wants to hear them. Most everyone I know would probably pin me to music. If someone had to describe me to someone, they’d either say the musician or the guy with the mustache.

It is hard to say what I am most proud but one of them has to be a few big shows I played with Shawn James a couple years ago and being asked to jump on his tour coming up in October.

As far as what sets me apart from other musicians is incredibly hard to answer. I feel like I’d be put top shame by a lot of other musicians as far as grafting and effort goes, If I had to choose something, it is my willingness to drop everything and take a hold of every opportunity that is presented to me.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
It’s all about being patient. Stay ready all the time and be willing to jump on every opportunity presented to you. You definitely have to go make your own opportunities, but some of the best ones come when you aren’t looking.
