Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Green.
Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am Brittany, affectionately known as the Loc Fairy—Owner of Loc’d Den Studio, Master Loctician, barber, and Natural Hair Specialist with more than 10 years of experience.
My love for natural beauty began at home. Growing up, I was fascinated by the care of hair and skin, and much of that passion was inspired by the wisdom, beauty practices, secrets, and techniques passed down to me by my mother and grandmother. Their influence taught me that true beauty is about more than physical appearance—it is also rooted in self-care, confidence, empowerment, and embracing your natural state.
My professional journey began in high school, where I studied cosmetology. In 2018, I established Loc’d Den Studio from my home on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Lumpkin, Georgia. As my business grew, I had the opportunity to work under Master Cosmetologist Mrs. M.J. Ponder. I later expanded to Columbus, where I continued developing my craft while working in a barbershop under Master Barbers Salaam and Willie T.
Every stage of my journey has strengthened my skills, deepened my knowledge, and prepared me to become the business owner and natural-hair professional I am today. By combining skilled hands, cultural reverence, ancient wisdom, modern expertise, and a touch of magic, I earned the name “Loc Fairy.”
My work focuses on helping people achieve healthy, vibrant hair that radiates confidence and self-love. I specialize in loc maintenance, starter locs, loc restoration and repair, wicks, color, customized consultations, and personalized natural-hair routines. I also create products using natural ingredients to nourish the hair and support healthy maintenance at home. Because I understand the connection between hair, skin, self-care, and overall well-being, my approach is holistic, empathetic, educational, and personalized.
In 2025, I reached one of my biggest milestones by signing the lease for my own commercial location in Columbus. Today, I proudly lead Loc’d Den Studio, LLC, while continuing to educate, encourage, and provide individualized solutions for every client who sits in my chair.
What sets me apart is my willingness to listen. I understand that no two crowns are the same, so every client deserves care that reflects their hair, lifestyle, concerns, and goals. I do more than style hair—I help people understand, appreciate, and confidently care for their crowns.
My dream is to build Loc’d Den Studio into a kingdom where clients and stylists can confidently evolve, flourish, and express themselves freely. My journey has been built through consistency, integrity, cultural connection, client support, and a genuine love for my craft. I come from a small town, but I have always carried a big vision—and I believe this is only the beginning.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Building a business from the ground up while being a single mother came with sacrifices that many people never saw. I started in my home, transitioned into booth rental, worked in different shops, and eventually expanded from a small town into Columbus. Each move required me to rebuild, establish trust with a new community, and prove that my work could speak for itself.
Some of my greatest struggles have been balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, finances, staffing, and the everyday responsibilities of running a growing business. I had to learn that being talented at my craft and knowing how to operate a business are two completely different things. There were lessons involving paperwork, licensing, policies, leadership, and protecting what I worked so hard to build. I have also experienced disappointment from people I supported and trusted, which taught me to establish stronger boundaries and handle business as business.
There were moments when I felt underestimated because I came from a small town, but that only encouraged me to work harder. I never built my business by competing with or speaking negatively about other stylists. I built it through consistency, integrity, client feedback, continued education, and the quality of my work.
The road has included setbacks, long hours, financial pressure, mistakes, and moments when I questioned whether I could continue. However, every challenge forced me to become more disciplined, knowledgeable, and intentional. I have learned to give myself grace while still holding myself accountable.
My journey has not been perfect, but it has been purposeful. Everything I have experienced has strengthened me as a mother, woman, stylist, and leader. I am still learning and evolving, but I am proud that I never allowed the difficult seasons to make me give up on the vision.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in healthy loc care, including starter locs, maintenance, styling, restoration and repair, loc extensions, wicks, color, detox services, and personalized care plans. I am especially known for restoring damaged or thinning locs and creating solutions for clients who may have been told their hair could not be repaired.
My work goes beyond completing a hairstyle. I educate my clients about their hair, scalp, products, and at-home maintenance so they can protect their crowns between appointments. I also create natural hair products, including Fairy Dew and Fairy Drops, to nourish the hair and support healthy loc care.
What sets me apart is my ability to see each client as an individual. I do not believe in using one method or routine for everyone because every crown has a different texture, history, lifestyle, and set of needs. I take the time to listen, evaluate the condition of the hair, and develop a plan that supports both the client’s desired look and the long-term health of their hair. My approach combines technical skill, creativity, cultural reverence, education, and genuine care.
I am most proud of the trust my clients place in me. Hair can be deeply connected to identity, confidence, culture, and healing, so I never take that responsibility lightly. Watching someone look in the mirror and feel beautiful, restored, and confident is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
I am also proud of how Loc’d Den Studio has grown—from working inside my home in a small town to opening my own commercial location and creating opportunities for other beauty professionals. My vision is bigger than simply owning a salon. I am building a kingdom where clients feel protected and celebrated, while stylists have the space to learn, evolve, flourish, and express their gifts freely.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have been blessed with many people who deserve credit for helping me reach this point. First, I give honor to God, my ancestors, and the spiritual foundation that has carried me through seasons when determination alone was not enough.
My mother and grandmother played an important role in shaping my love for natural beauty. They shared their knowledge, techniques, and appreciation for natural hair and skin care with me. Their influence planted the seed for the work I do today and taught me that caring for someone’s crown should always be done with intention.
I am also grateful for Master Cosmetologist Mrs. M.J. Ponder, who gave me an opportunity to work and grow professionally in Lumpkin. When I expanded my business to Columbus, Master Barbers Salaam and Willie T provided me with a professional space, guidance, and the opportunity to continue developing my skills. Each of these mentors contributed to my growth and helped prepare me for ownership.
My son, Melachi, deserves special recognition. He has experienced this journey beside me and has made sacrifices while watching me build the business. He is one of my greatest motivations and a major reason I continue pushing forward, even during difficult seasons.
My clients have also been essential to the success of Loc’d Den Studio. Their referrals, honest feedback, social-media support, loyalty, and trust allowed my business to grow beyond what I initially imagined. Many of them supported me when I worked from home, followed me through different locations, and continued believing in my vision.
I am grateful for every team member who has contributed time, talent, energy, or ideas to Loc’d Den Studio. Building a successful business requires more than one person, and each stylist, receptionist, collaborator, family member, friend, and community supporter has played a part in helping the studio evolve.
Although I am the owner, this journey has never belonged to me alone. Loc’d Den Studio was built through mentorship, sacrifice, encouragement, client loyalty, community support, and the collective belief that something meaningful could grow from a small-town dream.
