Conversations with Tj Black

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tj Black.

Hi Tj, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing comedy 10 years ago in a hookah lounge in Marietta Georgia. I was so nervous I had a shot of vodka and two beers to get on stage. It went horrible but I fell in love with standup comedy and writing my own material.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t lol. I’ve performed in some pretty rocky places. I’ve performed in dive bars where the stage(just a floor) was in front of the tv and there was football or basketball on and no one’s paying attention to you and you come home smelling like smoke. Clubs where there’s no audience members. I remember I did an empty movie theater once

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a disability called ataxia so I can’t drive so my mom has to drive me to my shows. Sometimes I have friends that can help to

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Atlanta is a very interesting city lol. It’s got a lot of different comedians, different types of comedy and people. It’s got to up there with Chicago and New York for one of the greatest comedy cities in America. Although I’ve also had some bad experiences in the city doing comedy.
