Meet Dwon Johnson of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwon Johnson.

Hi Dwon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. I come from a loving, religious and strict family. I was a pretty good student. I was always reading and writing short stories.
After graduation, I didn’t want to go to College so I joined the Marine Corp. I was excited to serve my Country and wanted to make a career out of it. Being a Marine was a dream come true until I got to my first duty station, Okinawa, JA. In the 80’s most Male Marines didn’t respect Women Marines and didn’t want us around, although we worked just as hard or harder from having to prove that we belonged. One day on duty, the Officer of the day called me in his office and tried to kiss me and stick his hands down my pants. I got away. I told a few people I could trust but no one listened. I felt like no one cared and I was mistreated so bad that I ended up having a miscarriage. The slut shaming and mistreatments followed me to each duty station. My last duty station was Parris Island, SC. My first year was troublesome because of my past. My Career Planner tried to suggest that I sleep with the Sergeant Majors for money. She even took me to his house. I stood frozen in one place the entire time. I was afraid to report them because the past taught me that nothing good would come from it. A new NCO came to work with us and he repeatedly raped me every time I had duty. I was bullied into silence. My work suffered, I gained weight, stayed depressed and was honorable discharged in 1992. I was free from the bullies but little did I know that I would deal with PTSD until today.

I went on to work for a large insurance company. Great Company. Great people and the money was good. I discovered Bath and Body Works and spent lots of money there. I quickly realized that their moisturizers didn’t keep the ash at bay long. So I got in my kitchen and started mixing up on organic butters and oils. I discovered fragrance and essential oils and made my own Body Butters. People noticed that my skin was soft and healthy and starting purchasing my natural products. I named my business SassiSoul Bath Luxuries. I’ve participated in many trade shows, made products for celebrities, swag bags for celebrities and candles for celebrity parties. I make more than Body Butters. I’ve added Sugar Scrubs, Creams, After shower oil, Body mist, Laundry scent boosters and Soy Massage candles. Business is good.

Remember the stories I wrote as a child? I’m still writing and I’m a Published Best Seller Author. I have three solo books and three Anthologies. My book Sunday Morning was just released two weeks ago. I’m working on my next book,Dress Blues, now.

Last but not least, I’ve started a group for all women Veterans who have survived Military Sexual Trauma. I named my group Lipstick, Courage and Camouflage. It’s a safe space for Women Veterans to share the experiences but the focus is on SURVIVING. I am constantly fighting depression, anxiety and intimidation when certain people around but I’m getting better with meds, therapy, prayer, and my faith in God. My book Dress Blues will be a book of Survival.

For now, I’m still making skin goodies, writing books, and encouraging women Veterans. I’m also doing a few interviews and have a few speaking engagements coming up. I’m just out here living and trying to make the world a better place.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My obstacles and Challenges would be my PTSD(MST) and Bipolar. Also if I’m not careful fear will paralyze me into thinking that this book won’t be better than my last book or speech won’t be as interesting as the last one. My biggest fear is that I lose a Female Veteran because I didn’t help enough. That’s why I pray before I do anything.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
