An Inspired Chat with Mika Burroughs of Johns Creek

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mika Burroughs. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Mika, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think people around my age typically struggle with finding the correct path in life. It can be overwhelming at times thinking of your future and whether or not you’re walking the correct path. I myself have questioned if the steps Im taking are in the right direction. Its one of those things you can only tell with time and all we can really do is take it day by day. As long as you’re happy with the direction you’re going in life, keep going. If not, make a change, and see what the next path looks like.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Im Mika, Im a personal trainer, online coach, competitive bodybuilder, and brand manager for LeanMuscleFitness. I have been working for Crunch Fitness in Johns Creek, GA for almost 5 years now. Along with that, Ive begun working with a fitness brand called LeanMuscleFitness for about a year now. Its been a great experience working on my own business as a trainer/coach as well as learning how to manage a fitness apparel brand. Im really excited for the future of both businesses. Im looking to build my presence as a bodybuilding coach online and helping LeanMuscleFitness continue to grow within the community and more.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I would say all of my friends really helped shape who I am. Im not a big talker and I considers myself to be introverted and generally keep to myself. Yet I somehow managed to be surrounded by a good amount of people. My friends, as well as complete strangers, compliment my progress in my fitness pursuit as well as how I carry myself as a person. I always find it weird because Im not used to being pat on the back or complimented. Ive always saw it as, “well Im just doing what I love” or “I dont think Ive changed much at all”. I never looked at myself as a role-model or anything of that sort. Im still figuring things out just like them. But, it is nice to know that others can feed off your energy even without saying much of anything.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Failure. Just like anyone else, the thought of failing keeps us from progressing. Its one of those things where you have to just take in the chin, take notes, and move forward. Id like to say that the fear of failure is completely gone from my mind, but its not. Even so, I will always tell myself, “What’s life without risk?”

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I wouldn’t say the industry is telling this, but in fitness, it’s easy to get lost into what is considered fit and/or attractive. With social media being used as much as it is today, some people may feel a bit self conscious about what they see on their phone compared to what they see in the mirror. I would hope that those people will come to understand that you don’t have to have a flat stomach or chiseled abs to solidify who or what you are. Everyone is different and approaches fitness the way they enjoy it. Its not a competition. Learn to have fun creating a better you.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. Ive always been a self sufficient person. If you told me everything I set out to do will come true but no one will care. Id still do it, because I care.
